All Things Political

Teowulf

<span style=height:2px;cursor:default;"></span>
This thread is for the civilized discussion of all things relating to politics... the war in Iraq, the current state of things, various political issues, etc.

Keep all election discussion to the "Decision 08" thread.

As aforementioned, please keep discussion civilized. Try to remember:
1) People are entitled to their opinion
2) Avoid Ad Hominem remarks.
3) War is a hard subject to talk about for some people

If the discussion gets too heated or resorts to any sort of name calling, thread bans will be handed out to those deserving, and the thread might be closed.

Discuss.

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich | Douchebag Report(tm)

In exchange for the Senate seat, Blagojevich was looking to optain:

• A substantial salary for himself at a either a non-profit foundation or an organization affiliated with labor unions.

• Placing his wife on corporate boards where he speculated she might garner as much as $150,000 a year.

• Promises of campaign funds — including cash up front.

• A cabinet post or ambassadorship for himself.

He was also considering appointing himself to the Senate for a variety of douchebag reasons:

• Frustration at being “stuck” as governor;

• A belief that he will be able to obtain greater resources if he is indicted as a sitting Senator as opposed to a sitting governor;

• A desire to remake his image in consideration of a possible run for President in 2016;

• Avoiding impeachment by the Illinois legislature;

• Making corporate contacts that would be of value to him after leaving public office;

• Facilitating his wife’s employment as a lobbyist;

• And generating speaking fees should he decide to leave public office.

Or himbeing a douchebag

Yeh, I heard about him. He was pretty much frustrated that Obama wouldn't have him in the cabinet, and so did all of these stupid things.

Complete douche if you ask me.

The most annoying part is that I actually had to look up this guy's political party. Same with Spitzer. Just one of the things that really bothers me these days: the news station wouldn't even mention this guy's political party yet when Craig wanted gay sex the headlines were REPUBLICAN SENATOR CRAIG..etc.

We'll considering Illinois is a Democratic State with a Democratic Senator...

Plus, it's not like it's relevant anyways.

Exactly, I was just pointing out the at least slightly liberal media. I don't watch MSNBC or Fox News so I can't say what they did, but it's just very annoying and very transparent.

“We should be delivering [the request] by the end of today to our congressmen and [Secretary of the Treasury Henry] Paulson asking for this $5 billion dollar bailout,” he told CNN Wednesday.

Could you imagine being in congress and having to respond to that?

At this point the porn industry shouldn't even be considered as a valid part of the economy to have $5 billion put into its survival.

Looking at it a little more closely though, it really is a "valid" part of the economy contrary to what you say. It's a multi-billion dollar industry that is absolutely HUGE. If all of these other (to my knowledge, unknown) businesses are receiving money from the government, then why should the porn industry be excluded? There's supposedly $800 billion dollars being pumped into the American economy, so where the hell is all of that money going???

I do admit the reasoning behind their claim seems pretty dodgy, with it being "People are too depressed to be sexually active," Flynt said in the statement. "This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex."
I just think it should be treated as it should be - a business in need of some economic help. Just because it's porn doesn't mean it should be looked at any differently, even though I'm sure it will be.

You're probably right, but just think about the political repercussions.

Campaign ad:
"[OPPONENT NAME] VOTED TO GIVE 5 BILLION DOLLARS TO FUND ILLICIT VIDEOTAPED SEX. DON'T LET [OPPONENT NAME] SPEND YOUR MONEY ON PORN"...etc, etc.

Holy shit I'm so excited. My dad's co-worker gave me a spare inauguration ticket so I'm going to be able to get an actual view of the swearing in.

It's gonna be hell down there. All the highways into D.C. are gonna be closed closed. Pretty much the only way to get in is by mass transit.

It won't be up-front but I'll see if I can at least snag a few pictures.

If politicians were more interested in technology as a whole, it would be a complete win-win situation.

It would:

Increase public appeal for the politicians
spend money (which they LOOOVE to do)
create jobs
and increase quality of life for humans.

New legislation doesn't directly help people, technological advances do. Motorized wheelchairs do. Pacemakers do. More things are digitally controlled and that increases safety, as well as consistency.

Wow, I'm surprised no one has posted about the inauguration. For those of you who don't know, it's happening today.
