There was a ATT commercial on the radio today talking about how they offered their users freedom of choice. I thought about this block and started wondering what they even mean by choice =/

remember customers dont rate att as number 1.

well thats the bs to gain customers... you should not believe everything you hear from the media.... its a 70 30 thing really half true half bs...

pornsites only get blocked when its heavily used by att customers...

Like I said, AT&T should be able to block what the please. They don't run a monopoly and they'd just lose business if they did. They shouldn't have to have a bunch of people telling them they can, as if they were Jesus Christ themselves. AT&T reserves the right to block whatever they want to, if their T&C from however long ago is still the same as it was, and nobody legally would be able to tell them otherwise.

But yeah, it's not like they'd ever be able to successfully block 4chan.

i wish 4chan would die forever.
4chan needs to exist only for the fact that if it didn't those people would go to other sites, and I don't want anon to take over everything I like. With 4chan we can sweep those people under the rug and they can do their thing and leave us doing our thing.

That is definitely not it. 4chan has been one of the most influential sites ever, being a place where people can speak to each other, plan things, meet, and have slim chances of getting in trouble for anything because of their anonymity. I advise you to read this: Wikimedia Error, as it might help you understand 4chan a little better.

well the only reason why att blocked it due to its adult content... thats it. :)... and maybe they found some child porn there or something.. its a big issue for att the child porn thing

I highly doubt that was the only reason. Apparently, people were complaining about the site too, and /b/ has been the source of many internet terrorism attacks. Besides, 4chan has been around for a long time, with child porn appearing here and there on 4chan several times. AT&T would've blocked the site way before now if that was the reason.

WELL besides the point of it having the porn maybe to protect its customers too:)

Protect customers, huh? There are way worse sites out there, yet AT&T decided to go for the biggest one they could find without, apparently, not knowing what it could do to them. Giant corporations don't care about customers, they care about earning money.

well the only reason why att blocked it due to its 1.adult content... thats it. :)... and maybe they found some 2.child porn there or something.. its a big issue for att the child porn thing

1. I really dubt that-All sites leading to "adult content" would had been ban by now, includes youtube.
I really don't think account can be suspended for that.O
Only thing I got by quick google search, is leading back to 4chan with keywords "adult content"By that they mean child images.

They really should keep the site lock...

2.Thats only reason I can see AT&T blocking it.

Eitherway its unblock, this case is going remain unsolved

Here's what happened:

For the past three weeks, 4chan has been under a constant DDoS attack. We were able to filter this specific type of attack in a fashion that was more or less transparent to the end user.

Unfortunately, as an unintended consequence of the method used, some Internet users received errant traffic from one of our network switches. A handful happened to be AT&T customers.

In response, AT&T filtered all traffic to and from our img.4chan.org IPs (which serve /b/ & /r9k/) for their entire network, instead of only the affected customers. AT&T did not contact us prior to implementing the block. Here is their statement regarding the matter.

In the end, this wasn't a sinister act of censorship, but rather a bit of a mistake and a poorly executed, disproportionate response on AT&T's part. Whoever pulled the trigger on blackholing the site probably didn't anticipate [nor intend] the consequences of doing so.

We're glad to see this short-lived debacle has prompted renewed interest and debate over net neutrality and internet censorship—two very important issues that don't get nearly enough attention—so perhaps this was all just a blessing in disguise.

Aside from that, I'll also add that there is some big news due later this week. Keep an eye on the News page, Twitter, and global message for updates.

As always, I can be reached at moot@4chan.org.

PS: If any companies would like to hook us up with some better hardware, feel free! The architecture we've got powering this large and influential beast is really quite embarrassing. ( ._.)

brief history bout att:
first telecommunication company in america... monopolized there services... fcc said that should not be... att broken up to smaller groups... some groups decided to buy one another... and att became whole again LOL!

Uhm, no. I don't know if ATT is one of the leading service providers over there, but if they don't allow pornography then they're clearly not one of the most suscribed. it dosent luk liek u wrk fr att eithr.

Seriously, I'm 15. I bet i look like Shake-a-spear to you.
