i question which would have increased coverage more, buying t-mobile, or spending that 39 billion on new 4G LTE tower's to increase coverage

Most news sources are saying that this way is a cheap option, so I'd imagine 39 billion wouldn't improve coverage by as much.

With coverage comes bandwidth too, thankfully. Otherwise ATT would just get slower than it already is.

T-Mobile and Orange in the UK are in the process of merging at the moment. The deal's been known for quite a while but it's finally being filtered down to average consumer level with tv adverts and such.
