I'm going to play this all night tonight now that I'm on my way home. How do you make obsidian? Water over lava or lava over water? Everytime I tried I made cobblestone.

I personally cheat and use http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=15921 but i pretty sure you get it when you pour water onto still lava

If you want to be more efficient with your portals, you don't need to have the corners on the frame.

This brings the cost down to 10 Obsidian.
