Looks like the DSi and its XL variant were only a stopgap measure to tide folks over for Nintendo's next major handheld hardware revision. Meet the Nintendo 3DS -- an all-new handheld that will serve as the successor to the company's immensely popular DS hardware. While there are no photos of the actual hardware yet, Nintendo did drop a tantalizing tidbit in its press release, revealing that it will feature use of 3D technology that does not require any form of special glasses.
Additionally, the 3D-capable device will include backwards compatibility with DS and DSi format titles.* It's due for release in Nintendo's fiscal year ending March 2011.
