It just looks really... thick? I'm no expert on this subject though.
A little experiment I did that came of when I was bored and playing around in my new copy of Photoshop CS5.

Both are linked because they're quite large in size and the image resizer stretches them into a horrible shape.

A:Nub: Love it dude! Pretty neat effects! Thought i would make the logo in the corner smaller and more invinsible if you get what i mean. And maybe remove the lens flare effect and replace it with something els. Other then that its sweet! 
AndyMosh: Looks like you got it pretty smooth man! Too little detail for ny taste but you got it looking pretty 3Dish! Cant wait for more stuff.
new thing in works. thought i would do some humans for a change heh. get away from my normal style.

Thanks man, yeah the logo may seem big but on my 24" 1920x1200 its not that big Also For the replacing the lens flare im not too sure what else I would use, maybe I could try getting rid of the noise it makes so that its lighting still persists. But I thought it looked sorta neat, it added some vector style into the illustration. Ill try differently in my next piece.
