Yes BB plans are VERY expensive. Almost 10 times the cost of normal GPRS. The crooks at Airtel disable your normal GPRS if they detect you have a BB phone and force you to take a BB plan. In other countries you can still use regular GPRS for 3rd party apps and browsers on a BB without paying for a BB plan. On normal GPRS both Airtel and Vodafone give you 2GB a month for Rs.98. Don't use it without pre-paying, it's very expensive.
