3 Questions About 1 PSP. <3

Hello,

I just installed 3.52 M33-4, and I successfully played a .cso game iso on it, but I have a few questions:

1) The System info in my PSP states '3.52 M33,' not '3.52 M33-4,' despite the fact that I successfully ran the M33-4 update. Is this normal?

2) The Game>Memory Card list is full of hundreds of Corrupt Files I must scroll through for about 10 seconds before I can get to the .cso game iso at the end of the list. I tried to hide the Corrupt Files using the Recovery Options option of enabling the hiding of Corrupt Files in the Game folder, but it didn't work. Is there any way I can safely hide or delete whatever files these are?

3) Lastly, the first time I turned the PSP on after turning it off after playing the .cso game iso, it stayed on a black screen, and I couldn't turn it off. The Power light stayed green, and raising the Power slider didn't do anything. I located and removed the battery to force the PSP off, put it back in, and the PSP resumed normal operations. However, to stay on the safe side, I'd like to know if there's a reason it did that?

Thank you:smile:

1) that's quite odd there, you sure you ran the whole update (press X to start, let it run for a sec, and then press X again, the psp shuts down?)
I'm going to leave this question for x3sphere, our MAN XD.

2) when you put a homebrew in your memory stick, the psp doesn't under stand the folder with the "%" in the name, so it will say that it's corrupted data. about the hiding thing, it's not a really well function, not to say DA sucks or anything, but i've encountered the same problem. so i can only say get use to it. also delete any firmware upgrade/update files, save up the space in your memory stick.

3)try it a few times, sometime it just doesn't boot correctly, and don't play it with a pandora battery! and pushing the power button up to ten seconds will let the psp turn off on it's own, so it's better not to pull your battery out.
there are other possibilities, pulled the memory stick out when playing, etc.

I recommend setting the UMD mode to "Sonpy np9660", saves a lot of trouble playing ISO/CSO.

Good luck,
Feel free to ask more.

Thanks for the help, Acer:)

1) Yes, I ran the update completely. First the 3.52 M33 Creator, then the 3.52 M33-4 Update. There was another file I didn't run, that had a 3:33:33 on it, or something similar, with the calender month of March in the background. Should I run that, too?

2) Which files can I safely delete, to get rid of some of the Corrupt Data? Here is my PSP's folder tree:

ISO
MP_ROOT
---100MNV01
---101ANV01
MUSIC
PICTURE
PSP
---COMMON
---GAME
---GAME150
---GAME352
---SAVEDATA
------ULUS10088010000
---SYSTEM
------BROWSER
VIDEO

3) It's not a Pandora Battery, I'm not sure what that is yet, fortunately ;) But if it happens again, I'll try holding the Power slider up for 10 seconds.

Yes, I set the UMD mode to 'Sony np9660,' after reading the suggestion on a forum sticky :)

Thanks

1)yeah you have to run the 3:33:33 thing, THAT is the -4 update.

2)delete MP_ROOT, that's for videos but just put your videos in ms0:/VIDEO.
and i guess that's it.
you can delete the 3.52M33 creator, update,
and delete the 3:33:33 after you've update to -4.

3)that's odd. disable everything in the recovery menu.
if it still doesn't work it might be a corrupted CSO.

Ah, I didn't know the 3:33:33 was the -4 update, as it wasn't labeled as such! I updated it correctly now. System info says 3.52 M33-4 now.

And I deleted MP_ROOT. I'll get used to the Corrupted Data, then. To bypass scrolling down the list every time I want to play the .cso game iso, I assume I can just turn the PSP on and off at the game's main menu.

Thanks:)

there is another way.
copy the cso to your computer first, delete the one one your psp, then put the one on your computer back.
the thing is they put the last added item as the first one in your xmb, so the reason why you cso is at the bottom is becasue that you put it in your psp first. :D

I tried that, but the .cso is still at the end of the list of Corrupted Data. The .cso is in its own P:\ISO folder, instead of in the P:\PSP\GAME folder, which I imagine has something to do with why the PSP doesn't put it at the top of the GAME menu list, even when it's the last file I transfered to the PSP.

Thanks:)

hmm... hundreds of corrupt data icons? You might be experiencing some memory stick corruption... try going into System Settings and then choose Format Memory Stick.

This will get rid of any bad sectors on the stick and will clear off all data (so be sure to backup anything important).

I backed up my gamesaves and System folder, formatted the memory stick, put the gamesaves and .cso game iso back on, (the wallpaper was still there, even after formatting the stick, so I assume the wallpaper setting was saved on the battery or in the System folder or something?) and even made sure 'hide Corrupt Data' was Enabled in Recovery Options, but still, the hundreds of Corrupt Data files are there, in the Game menu, over the .cso game iso file. But it's okay, I can just scroll down the list every time, if we're out of ideas:) It would take too long to Delete each one in the PSP, plus they'd just come back again if I ever need to reformat again in the future:P

Thank you:)

I've seen this hundreds of corrupted data in a mem stick before in a friends machine, I put it in mine, same result. The mem stick was the issue. Your stick definitely sounds bad like x3 said. If its fake (press triangle on mem stick and view the info, if magicgate is unknown than its fake). If so I'd buy an original stick, definitely worth the extra money as it solves these types of problems and loads quicker to. If it is an original I'd send it back.

Aw, crud. It says 'MagicGate Unknown' :[ But I trust its authenticity anyway because of its packaging and everything it came with, I just think this is because it's a Japanese one or something instead of being meant for the US. It's got a perfect packaging, tons of very official-looking text and instructions, nothing that looks even slightly photocopied, 5 year warranty, little shiny official 'Sony' sticker, a Duo adapter, and, of course, every part of it says 'Sony.'

But I was going to send it back, anyway, like you suggested, because it wouldn't be a loss to me if I order another one first and get the money back, but, unfortunately, I bought it off eBay from a seller who didn't accept PayPal, just money orders and checks (I didn't know til I purchased it, at which point I was like 'crap!') so I don't have any sort of protection. I was about to tell PayPal I want my money back, which always works, as long as you send them the proper delivery confirmation number that proves you mailed it back.

And it was $40 total, so I won't buy another.

Aw well. It seems okay to me, besides the Corrupt Data, which is just an inconvenience, so I'm pretty much fine with it. Thanks for letting me know what it was:)

Yup, it's definitely a fake, after I checked those pages. A very good fake, too. Still, it doesn't look like there's anything I can do, so I'll just take care of it as best I can, especially if fakes are less sturdy than real ones. Thanks for letting me know:)

Wow, the seller on eBay whom I purchased the fake memory stick from actually agreed to refund me the $40 after I opened an eBay dispute, and even sent the refund already! Yay! I'm going to send it back and purchase a 4GB SanDisk instead, as soon as possible.

But, so I know, why is SanDisk recommended over Sony? :)

Thanks

But, so I know, why is SanDisk recommended over Sony? :)

Because they have faster read/write speeds, they're altogether more reliable/stable, and it's VERY unlikely you'll find a fake Sandisk memstick, although it's probably still possible, it's just that I've never heard of one.

I would just suggest not buying memsticks off of eBay, because although those may not be fakes, they still may BE fakes. The extra you'll pay is worth it, IMO. I'd go to Tigerdirect.com, or Newegg.com, or Zipzoomfly.com, somewhere like that.
