3D Realms Says Uncharted 2 On Par With Half Life Series

While the studio behind Duke Nukem has ceased development efforts due to a lack of funding, its founders are still eying the competition. 3D Realms president George Broussard was so impressed with the single player experience of Uncharted 2 that he’s gone and compared it – quite favorably to say the least – to that [...]

No way, HL was an industry changer, Uncharted is just a game.

Have you played Uncharted 2 yet?

IMO, it just raised the bar to a whole new level of, well, everything. The amount of polish and detail put into this game is fucking phenomenal. It comes across as more than just a game - it's an epic experience filled of awesome.

It changed my life Chathurga... it changed my life.

How so? I have only played up until the 4th chapter since my PS3 died but from what I played of it so far Uncharted 2 feels like Uncharted 1 with a different story.

Chapter 4, eh?

You haven't really played the game in its entirety.
I'm sure you also have sour feelings towards it due to it killing your PS3.

I mean really, you can't say it's the same game but with a different story. It just isn't. There's so much more that it offers compared to the first one, I don't even know where to really begin. Type 'Uncharted 2' into google and I'm sure you'll find a million and one reasons why.

It's an incredible game. Like I said in the Uncharted 2 thread, this is probably the best Action/Adventure game I have ever experienced. Worth every penny

No way is it on par with HL, that is just insane.
I've been able to play this game and I must say, it is a great game, bot not HL level.

I played at E3 and walked away pretty impressed, but I didn't get the feeling it was on the level of HL either, so was pretty surprised at Broussard's comment. I'll save final judgment until I actually play through the full thing though. Either way, it is an amazing game.

Uncharted 1 is by far my favorite single player game. I haven't had a chance to play 2 yet, but my expectations are high. I have no doubt that for some (myself included), this game is more fun that Half-Life. I enjoyed the Half-Life series, but oftentimes grew bored in the middle of the story. Uncharted 1 had me playing for each next level, something that not many single player games do for me.

Ya thats why Im holding off judgment until I beat it but from I what played I dont see what makes this game any more special than the first one. Uncharted 2 didn't really kill my PS3 it was the hundreds of blu ray movies I watch on it that did it. Uncharted 2 just happen to be the disc in the console when the drive died.

Uncharted 2 is just as similar to the first as something like gears of war 2 is to the first one. Its a sequel so its gonna be like the first one. I dont think Uncharted 2 is bad or anything like that I just think its crazily overrated like the first one was. Its good like the first one was no doubt but I wouldn't call it incredible.

Total opposite for me. I love the way HL doesn't actually "force" a story on you, events basically unfold in realtime as you play.

I think its safe to say that both games are different enough to not be able to properly compare the two. HL is a physics based FPS/Puzzle game. Uncharted is a third person, action adventure game. The two can't really be compared in the same way as say, Resistance and Halo, which are of the same genre.

The two episodes + TF2 > U2
Don't get me wrong. It's the strongest runner for GOTY so far (Borderlands, MW2 and L4D2.. We'll see at release) but if you include the original HL2, strongest runner for game of the decade so far.. Portal...
And then there's mods. SMOD, Riot Act, Korsakovia.. (and BM and Raindrop, when they release..)
Orange Box > U2
qed
(having said that, it's an amazing game and if it ages well it'll be a classic)
