According to “internal Activision estimates,” Black Ops has already topped last year’s Call of Duty release, generating approximately $360 million in sales across North America and Europe alone. That’s up from an estimated sell-through of $310 million for Modern Warfare 2. This was expected, but now it's official.

The record-shattering feat marks the second year in a row that Activision's Call of Duty franchise has broke launch records across all forms of entertainment.[...]

Crappy games really shouldn't rake that much. The title is surfing on Infinity Ward's previous efforts (before the best people left and created Respawn Entertainment.
I am pretty sure this is the last time this will happen. RIP COD, and COD: BO is a RIP-OFF - that's just what it is.

Agreed. I'm not as big of a fan of BOs as I was with MW or MW2. While there's certainly more features I feel that I got more money's worth with MW2 (the Spec Ops missions took me a long time to fully complete while the zombie mode only has a few select maps). Really not sure how or why it topped MW2...guess COD is just getting more popular each day though

Nice opinion you got there.

I for one love the game and think the team deserve the sales, so what if the game borrowed a lot from what the Infinity Ward team created, the bottom line is the end product is fun and the hundreds of thousands playing it seem to be for the most part enjoying it.

Think the bigger argument/question here is is it better than MW2? A lot of Infinity Ward fans will probably say that its not, including myself (dunno, but don't have the same will-to-play as I did with MW/MW2)

Personally I think it's an improvement over MW2, but not MW1. I'm taking only the SP campaign into account, haven't spent enough time in multi yet.

To me, this is the best COD title to date.

I'll admit, prior to release you would have heard me droning about how Activision's milking the series, and how Treyarch can't really make a COD that would trump COD4.

But I was wrong. Very balanced gameplay, an engrossing campaign and I'm not even finished yet. Treyarch actually looked at the flaws of MW2 and fixed them.

I couldn't agree more. I'm nearing the end of the campaign, and there isn't one mission that I haven't enjoyed, or am dreading going back to re-do on veteran. The presentation is unique and refreshing, and I do enjoy the whole premise of the title. Multiplayer is definitely the most robust, and I can easily see myself sinking more time into this than any other CoD title. Again, like Zero this is coming from someone who had doubts about Treyarch, and thought they couldn't pull it off, but they have managed to produce a superb game no doubt about it.

I haven't played single player yet but this game is far superior to MW2, I personally don't see how anyone could say it's not. It's more balanced, the maps are better, graphics are better, I mean it's all around just a better game.

I think it's much better, I love the online play and the campaign is awesome, I remember I got bored of MW2s campaign rally fast, this one keeps me going trying to discover what exactly is going on.

Define 'rip-off'

I do think it is an improvement over MW2. This game is far more balanced online for sure, no denying that at all. No more picking people off across the map with a silenced UMP.

not everyone is ganna be in love with this game over MW2, but i'm not one of those people=-), so frozen, nader, just go play some MW2, there's most likly plenty of people still playing it, no reason that people can't enjoy both

Not saying I don't enjoy the game; I'm just saying that just because this title sold a lot doesn't mean it is a great title. I personally like MW2 but I already played the hell out of that so a new title is a nice change in pace

And just because you prefer MW2 over Black Ops doesn't make it NOT a great title either. Fact of the matter is, there are several who like Black Ops better and think it is a great title. I know you weren't arguing that it's a lousy game by any means, just saying =p

Worded my statement wrong: It is a good game, but I honestly don't think it trumps MW2. Infinity Ward always seems to bring something new to the table with their titles, including the kill streaks, customizable playercard/logo, spec-ops, etc. Treyarch just seems to take what IW did and attempt to improve on it. Sure, they did add Zombies (not exactly new though and I felt like there was a lack of map variety for the zombies) and they added Wager matches (again, don't think those are varied enough and get old pretty quick. Also I think the spawns in this title are the worst of all, especially on Nuketown. Being constantly killed shortly after spawning is just unacceptable, especially at a high rate.

On top of the bad spawns the voting system for the maps is just annoying - too many times do I find myself playing Nuketown over and over again, one after another. Also have only played the Radiation map a total of 2 times I think...out of 10 hours of play. One thing I will say about this game however: it's less of a cluster fuck with the killstreaks (at least those in the higher kills).

Is it a good game? Sure. Can't put my finger down on it but I preferred MW2, both in SP and MP. Guess it all boils down to which maps I like better and I can say without a doubt I preferred MW2's maps

They fixed everything that was terrible about MW2. The weapons are much more balanced, no more getting sniped across the map with a silenced smg. Killstreaks not counting towards other killstreaks is probably one of the greatest fixes in this game, dunno what the fuck IW were thinking. As for the spawning issues you're having: I've literally never encountered them in 15 hours of MP gameplay. You're also complaining about Nuketown matches and getting killed right after spawning...do you not remember Rust matches on MW2?

Rust wasn't in the team deathmatch playlist if I recall properly. As far as the guns go; they're not that more balanced - I can still snipe across the map regardless of the weapon (smgs are harder of course). They're more balanced but not waaaay more balanced as everyone seems to be putting them off as

Rust was on the FFA playlist, which is enough already. The weapons really are that much more balanced in case you haven't realized. The silenced UMP was a 3-4 shot kill no matter where you were on a map. I struggle to even stay locked on to an enemy player with a gripped AK-74U at a distance. The assault rifles in MW2 were a catastrophe, in BO every weapon actually has its own weaknesses and strengths; they're not just all recoil and spray-free.

The game definitely feels unique to Treyarch rather than IW. Not necessarily because of the MP, but because the campaign is similar to WaW in the sense that it feels like you are in a war with huge battles, not fighting in the back alley's (I got that feeling in MW2).

I just completed the campaign on Normal and plan on attempting it soon on Veteran difficulty. As TO said, there's not one mission I'm not looking forward to playing through again.

EDIT: Just thought I'd point out that a lot of people (I think) - including myself - don't mind paying for a game based on 'improvements' of the last one (if that is even the case).
