Anyone know what this chip is called on my 2001's motherboard?

"Whoa is that a girl on this team!?"
Does anyone know what this chip is that's located behind the LCD, on the motherboard?

I'm asking because I recently had a problem with my PSP not booting or functioning normally:

- The green light comes on but the memory stick nor the LCD doesn't, and if they did, the LCD screen doesn't display properly sometimes, but you can still see the XMB and such.

- Sometimes when I go to launch an app, the gameboot comes up, but then it just sits there. The memory stick doesn't get read and the PSP is frozen until I hold the power switch. This happens with anything I try to launch.

- I have my battery pandorized & memory stick prepared, which are also my normal use items for homebrew, music, and such, so when I try to boot into DC8, nothing reacts, nor does the recovery menu, but if I try to boot into ELF Menu, the stick reacts, and the LCD does, but it doesn't show anything on screen. I can still move around the ELF Menu and launch tools.

I think this problem started because of me using it to listen to music with earbuds while I sleep, and about 3 or 4 times it fell off of my bed onto the floor, and my flooring is hardwood :(. As a "fix", I have a folded piece of paper pressing down on this chip. Hopefully it's a permanent "fix" as I don't want to lose this 2001. I'm too in love with it being homebrew enabled :blushing:

BTW, if there's such, is there any diagrams of PSP 2000 with labels as to what fuses, chips, connectors, etc available on the net?

You really need to post a proper picture highlighting the actual chip. But from that diagram, the chip in that general location is the cpu (but also gpu and nand/ram is inside).

The problem is probably bad connections of the chip to the board (which is why pressing down on it helps). One solution is to reheat the chip (a hot air gun or even a hairdryer works).

I have one for the TA-079 here. I had planned to make diagrams of each motherboard but I need hi-res pics of them.

I'll borrow a camera from a friend later today since the only camera I have now is the ChottoShot.
About the heatgun/hairdryer method: I failed that miserably when I tried fixing RRoD'ed 360s twice so i'm definitely afraid of doing that with my PSP

The picture you linked to SilverSpring is perfect for what i'm looking to collect :D
Hopefully more of different models will be available later.

Thanks so much for your response :)

You don't need to take a picture of your own board. Just find a pic of the board on the web and and draw a circle around the IC in MSPaint or something, just to make sure I know which IC you are talking about. If you're scared to reheat it then yea the best you can do is just press down to apply pressure on it.

You do know that diagram was made by me right?

The photo was taken from my own JP 1.00 TA-079 launch model. I used to have a TA-085 too but not anymore but if anyone else is willing to take some hi-res pics of their boards I'll be happy to make diagrams of them too. Ideally one from each model, so a 2K (either TA-085 or TA-088), a 3K (a TA-090), and a GO (either a TA-091 or TA-094). Preferably as high resolution as the photo I took (in the above link).

If I trusted myself enough to open my PSP 3k, I'd get you a high res picture of my board.

It's been functioning fine so far with one time it has frozen at the gameboot but resetting it worked the first try. I noticed that the Wifi LED didn't flash quickly before it shut off so that was a little wierd.

I've found a really nice resolution of a TA-085 via Google Image Search:

And the specific part i'm referring to:

Yup I knew that (the URL gave it away) :) The way you have each part labeled is perfect to what i'm looking for and had me googling what each part does ;)

Kuku_kaka or Royginald didn't provided you yet with pictures of his mobo collection? Nice to see you here Silverspring. Your post are very informative. Keep them coming.
