I really want to connect to the psn, but it says i need a firmware update. is here any way i can? (5.03 gen-b). i miss resistance online and rmeote play:angry:

update to ofw. otherwise no.

All newer games use PSN as well by the way.

If you want to download demo`s use Mediago.

If you want to play online use Xlink. :)

XLink Kai is over complicated and sucky. Update.

KezraPlanes, your advice is ridiculous. In every single post you suggest people upgrade to OFW. What's your vendetta?

Xlink kai is the only viable option this guy has, yet you turn it down and say it's "sucky"? You provide him no option except to upgrade to ofw just as you have done. Homebrew is a million times better than what ofw has to offer, there is no limits. Why would any rational person upgrade to ofw from cfw only to have all of the thousands of accessible homebrew not work anymore.

Want a real unbiased answer?

In plain and simple terms, there is no way to play your games online unless you either a) Update to ofw, thus updating your kernel to the newest 6.xx kernel, or b) Use xlink kai. There is currently no work around and no way to make it happen naturally through custom firmware. The reason for this is because GEN feels the benefits of keeping homebrew compatible with the 5.xx kernel far outweighs upgrading their custom firmware to the 6.xx kernel just for online related benefits and the very few features that were added in the newer firmwares.

I suggested it because it's the best option they have. XLink Kai is configuration hell and I highly doubt he has the skills to pull it off/will to buy the material needed.

I personally see no reason to be on CFW at this point in time. The homebrew scene is dead and the only reason people use CFW is to pirate their games. There was so much potential on the HB Scene and people wasted it on ISO Loaders so they could get their stuff for free, that kind of attitude makes me sick.

The current PSP userbase is reflected on the attitudes on the internet, and I've seen to much crap from them to even believe any of them use CFW for legit purposes. This includes a well established member of another community calling one friends of mine who loves the Scene and keeps making regular updates to his app, a "Butthurt developer" just because he stood against piracy, and yet, on piracy sites everyone uses his plugin. Quite ironic, eh?

I have no beef against CFW or HB, rather I love them both and use them. I do have a beef with the irresponsible PSP Userbase that wants everything for free, disrespects deveopers and pisses on them as they need. Yet, they come back begging should they need anything.

Btw Slasher, I don't want any problems with you, but I wouldn't mind debating the CFW vs. OFW with you. Being a dev, you're smart enough to hold an argument and good discussion, unlike most of the PSP userbase.

Sorry if I came out as a douchebag earlier. I merely stated what I thought was his best option.

Ontopic: Yes he could use XLink Kai, and that's his only other option besides PS3 ad-Hoc Party, which also works for what he wants. But in both case I don't think he can use infrastructure mode, if I'm not mistaken.

Well the HB scene really isn't dead, although it depends on how you look at. But even if it was dead, maybe there's a certain HB game (for instance, Wagic) that he really would like to keep playing, but he also wants to use PSN. In that case, it would be insane to update just for a few games he would like to grab off the PSN :P

Also, it seems in all of your arguments you use "ISO loaders" as the reason why this "scene" is supposedly dead. Hate to say it, but ISO loaders have been around since the beginning of the HB days, nothing much has changed in that regard.

By the way.. I know what you are referring to ... someone calling another person "Butthurt". That doesn't really have to do with anything here, but since you're on that subject, I believe that Person had a very good reason for calling that other individual "Butthurt", even though I'm usually not in favor of calling people names over the interwebz, lol.

I don't mean this in a negative way, but I guess it just seems like you always think of reasons why the scene sucks, rather than coming up with some reasons why the scene is good...

Again, I don't mean for an argument to break out over this, cuz that would totally defeat the purpose of this thread ;) If someone would like to talk with me over this I would be happy to do it via PM or IRC :)

I could decompose your argument right now but I won't xD But, yeah show up on IRC then.

Wouldn't it be possible for a pandora-enabled PSP to boot through Time Machine to the latest firmware? Or are those not supported.

EDIT: Some searching finds its only for previous firmwares. Hence the name, lul

If TimeMachine was updates, yes it would work.

Instead you can always install OFW to the flash.
And use TM to boot 5.00 M33 from memstick to play homebrew.

As that is no problem to boot regardless the firmware in flash.
(If the PSP is fully hackable \ pandorizable.)

That is if he has his own UMD of R : R.

I think CFW 5.50 GEN-D allows you to connect to the PSN normally. But lacks 1.50 Kernel homebrew.

Welcome to MfM, Xandu ;)

There's a problem with the latest firmware (6.20) and a pandora battery.... when you power on the PSP, it shuts off immediately. The only way to get it to boot into OFW is to use an A/C adapter or have a normal battery.

At least mines does that (since 6.00) and not to mention it being inconvenient for when i'm away from home.

It happens because the NAND reboot on the PSP Slim doesn't work properly unless a specific patch is done by the custom IPL block, which has been added since 3.80 M33-2. This patch, of course, does not exist in any official firmwares.
