AVEC V3 - In Car Navigation Demo!

Art

New Member
Hi Guys,
Now with an indexed map file implementation,
AVEC V3 is fast enough to keep up with real time in car navigation.
No release of V3 just yet, but a YouTube demo video:

YouTube - AVEC GPS - Real Time Navigation

This is the first demo video of AVEC that isn't captured from image sequences
(ie. it was actually filmed with a camera on a tripod in the back of the car).
Please vote for AVEC in the Neoflash competition if you like what you see.
Cheers, Art.

Great work Art! Is this using the GPS attachment for the PSP or your own contraption? GPS Navigation software is hard to come by for any device, especially a third-part homebrew creation! I'm a bit speechless, seems to be very accurate as well!

Hi Frozen,
There is no lock to road feature yet, but that wouldn't be too hard to implement.
That's what makes commercial units appear more accurate (if they do).

It's currently using the serial port the way MapThis! did. In fact, any serial GPS unit that
is compatible with MapThis! can definitely be used with AVEC. The serial routines are
exactly the same :)

I'm looking to support the PSP 290 GPS attachment, but I need to get hold of one first.
The code to support it is freely available on ps2dev.org, and in MapThis! source code.

PS:
It's a long way from this:
GPSP (GPS front end program for PSP)
isn't it? :D Took a few years, but I got there.
Cheers, Art.

Huh?
How could it tell where my car is without it?
Watch all of the video.. or alternatively, read all the first post ;)

I meant like say in Google maps how it is a photographed map etc.

No, that's been done.
This is a vector map GPS.

The problem with raster map GPS programs is they don't actually know what street they are on,
even if they can display it.

:O

Wow, awesome work. :)

Thanks :) The V3 release is out now for 1.50 kernel only at this stage.
It will show up in Google searches soon enough "AVEC GPS V3".
Art.
