Details from the latest issue of GameInformer have hit the web, revealing that players assume the role of the first Big Daddy in BioShock 2. The genetically-enhanced lifeform will come equipped with both a drill and rivet gun, just like in the original game. Also, players will still be able to utilize plasmids.

To sum up, you apparently play as a "renegade" Big Daddy right from the start, in search of a Little Sister. Upon recruiting a sister, you'll be given the option to either harvest her in return for ADAM or adopt. Choosing to adopt a sister will make her tag along with you. What's more, is that adopted Sisters can harvest ADAM from corpses. However, when doing so she will draw a wave of incoming Splicers, whom players must fend off while their sister sidekick finishes collecting the ADAM. Failure to do so will result in the opposing splicers harvesting your Little Sister for themselves.

Sounds interesting to say the least. It's clear BioShock 2 is shaping up to be much different than many of us imagined it would. Although these details are still technically unconfirmed, look for official word from 2K on this to surface soon.

BioShock 2 is scheduled for a late 2009 release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
