Amidst rumors swirling around that the next Call of Duty title would take us into the controversial arena of the Vietnam War, a press release from this morning doesn't implicitly state that the next iteration of the series will go there, but it would still be possible. Activision today announced that the next Treyarch developed game will introduce fans to the secret world of Black Ops and will be arriving in typical fashion around Veteran's Day this year.* A website for the game has also appeared which at the moment is fairly bare with information, but it should hold the announcer trailer once it airs today on GameTrailers TV.

"We can't wait for our community to experience*Call of Duty: Black Ops," said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch.*"We have focused our entire studio on this game, with dedicated multiplayer, single-player and co-op teams creating the most intense, gripping and riveting experience possible for our fans on all fronts."

The official release date is November 9th, 2010[...]

Black Ops huh? Hmm it looks a bit promising. Remember, the the first trailer + game play premiers tonight on Spike TV (I think)

I might get this for pc as long as they allow me to mod and dedicated.

yeah that would be nice i really dont get the problem with server modding, it just makes the community grow.I might buy it after i hear some reviews and if its good yeah, just dont want to end wasting my money like i did for WAW on xbox360.

I bet it will have cheap graphics like WaW vs CoD4. And the multiplayer will be a direct ripoff with the names of the items changed.

It'll be very similar to MW2, like WaW was. So, don't hold your breath for Dedicated Servers and Mod Tools for this title, especially if it uses IW4.

Or who knows. Activision might learn.

In regards to the game itself, Treyarch will either pull off the stealth aspect well, or fail miserably. I hope it's not the latter, because i'd like to see a stealth-based CoD. Assuming that's what the whole "Black Ops" thing is.

Also, I saw first-person footage of a chopper pilot, Treyarch experimenting more with vehicle combat in this title as well?

I'll pass... Doesn't really interest me like the other CoD titles.

I player W@W and MW2, not very much, but they really didn't interest me at all, MW2 player like an arcade shooter in the story mode. We'll see how this one pans out though.

I haven't watched the trailer yet, but Black Ops is not a synonym for Stealth. I wouldn't assume you'll be doing anything stealthy in a CoD title.

Here's the trailer.

It could still be in Vietnam judging from the jungle scenes. Doesn't look like it's a super stealth game either.

Also, just saw the trailer, and now I really don't care about this game at all. I wasn't really a fan before, and now that IW isn't in the saddle, it's going to go to shit.

No clue what I will think of this game. It could be good, it could be bad. So far all they've shown off is a more modern setting (not as modern as MW) so I'm a fan of that, but it looks like it has too much going on at once. I could care less about where it takes place though, just matters if the gameplay is there. WAW copied a lot of MW multiplayer aspects so it'll be interesting to see what Treyarch does for the MP in this game.

I'm with Ipaq on this one. It's hard to judge from that trailer, but I could have sworn I saw some Vietnemese with pyjamas on.

Those who don't get it, that pretty much what the Viet Cong wore.

Update: UK retailer GAME has some alleged details on Black Ops, claiming the game will take place in locations ranging "from Cuba to the Arctic and the jungles of Vietnam" (which matches up with the types of music that Activision was rumored to be looking to license for the game) and puts players in the shoes of a still nascent Elite Special Forces team while they participate in "off-the-record missions using unconventional weaponry to get the job done!"

So yeah, article needs updating ;)

This is why I hate teaser trailers, they are supposed tease you and make you want to see more, (I can't help if that sounds dirty) but all I got from that was FLASH FLASH EXPLOSION FLASH!!!!! FLASH GUNFIRE FLASH!! HELICOPTER FLASH!!!MORE EXPLOSIONS!!!! FLASH!!! GAME NAME.
