Its pretty easy actually. Im working on writing a pdf for the 5 button midi controller I made as a proof of concept. Its a great starting place , and a usefull outcome for the 13 $ it costs to build. Only thing is it requires a usb to midi adapter. But the code is ultra simple.
 
what language is it, i only know very basic C....

and please do, i'd love to learn :D
 
Last night I got the Micro SD reader working. I now have a 2 gb Mixer, working on writing the composite firmware now. Currently the mixer , and sd reader are on seperate prototypes , hopefully by the end of the day they will be united into one firmware / prototype.

Get a programmer Currently i use pickit2 programmer, but it seems the PICkit3 is maturing rapidly now to be the beast of a tool it was planned to be. Theyre about 40 - 70 $ depending on the package you get. Be sure to scroll down , you may wish to get just a programmer and get a seperate dev kit to learn on.

like the low pin count usb kit (with courses to teach you)

Or even the LPC kit with a PICkit2

There are other languages , companies to buy from, etc but I like the balance of good prices , and Excellent service I have found with Microchip.

Indeed you can also download the various stacks to fiddle with , if your a student with a proper school email you can order a chip sample and build your own board ,

I might have to look into that. btw, where are u located in chicago? im up there every summer. sometimes during winter holidays to

i thought so xD i grew up in elmhurst then we moved down to texas.

how long does it take to code a single firmware? ive been wondering about that since you update daily :laugh:
 
Depending on what your writing and how good you are ,, an hour to a day, to more.

Just finished it , and it seems to be working though I know I need to clean it up a bit. The microsd is working now though.
