Namco has revealed some new gameplay footage of its upcoming PSP RPG, Tales of The World: Radiant Mythology. This video showcases the battle system featured in the game. More or less, it's the same real-time battle system as was featured in Tales of Eternia, but now on a 3D playing field. Though I can't say that's a bad thing, Eternia's battle system was nothing short of greatness.

This is the kind of battle system which makes a game fun. If the story line for this is good it'll be an insant hit. I really need to get into Tales of Eternia, have the game but just got it on someone else advice. Hope this next one will be good. Def getting it.

Now with 20% more Arche!

How fun, Arche will be in it!
Tales of Phantasia was one of my favorite RPGs... never played any of the other Tales games though...

So, after 3 games we finally get a Tales of the World game in english? Awesome. Hopefully the new 3D battle system takes pointers from Tales games like Eternia, Phantasia, and Abyss, and not ones like Legendia and Symphonia...

Symphonia's battle system was great i thought. :)
it was the first Tales game i played...i got it when i broke my ankle and loved it since then.although i was rather annoyed at being able to beat it in 40 hours when the back of the case said 60 hours...i felt cheated.... XD

To be honest, MenaceInc, alotta people's first Tales game was Symphonia, so you had nothing to compare it to... Don't get me wrong, it was okay, but the fighting system was so much weaker than previous, basically all you had to do was run up and press 'A' and win... Not too many variations on attacks, no bigger combos, no different kinds of weapons with Lloyd, no real reason to block, whereas, like, Destiny, or Eternia, there was more of a strategy and in-depthness to it that Symphonia was lacking, although Symphonia did do one thing better than all the others- attracted newcomers to the series. It had a decent story, but I dunno, I always found the fighting system to be the most enjoyable part of the Tales games, and that one fell short, IMO.

Looks like a sweet game hopefully it will make it so that unlike in TOE where you could basically non stop hit someone and win you will have to worry about being hit back and such.

it was my first Tales game, yea but since then i have played through a translated version of Phantasia and Eternia on the PSP and i thought the targetting was better in Symphonia...in Eternia and Phantasia the targetting was pretty much useless i found....there seemed to be no point to it really unless you were casting spells but i was always a melee character like Lloyd or Reid or Cress.

*shudders at the word 'Cress'* Sorry, played too much DeJap-transed ToP to like the name Cress, it just feels like an error to me now... Anyway...

Yea, I don't disagree with you about that, the targeting, but you also have to consider in, like, ToP for instance, it's 2D, so the targeting ISN'T too great... You should try Tales of the Abyss, trust me, best Tales game ever...

Phantastic.

In Tales of Phantasia I only used targeting to direct my computer controlled characters to specific enemies in the event of a pincer attack, I never had any complaints about it.

P.S.: I really disliked the use of the name Cress in the GBA port as well, but like you I think it's because I played it through as Cless on ZSNES years before...
