Confirmed: Patapon 2 Going UMD-Less for Stateside Debut

Once rumor, now true. In a statement released to press, SCEA communications director Patrick Seybold confirms that Patapon 2 will be sold strictly as a digital offering in North America, unbound by the shackles of UMD format. Only a voucher code good for downloading the title digitally via PSN will be included in retail packaging. Seybold however is quick to point out that this a "one test case," meaning this is not a strategy Sony plans on adopting from here on out -- at least not yet.

<p>I say, it's about time: we can get rid of the burden of having to carry UMDs. It just makes me wonder: why did sony make a system that relied on a media form that's not really accepted anywhere else in the world? It costs more money, it lags, it's fragile, etc etc -_-</p>
