CSO/ISO/Homebrew Space Calculator?

Ok not sure if this should go in one of the dev forums. Its more of a request-come-idea.

Bear with me on this, re-read it if it doesn't make sense the first time!

I have several memory cards. I'm always conscious that I might not be maximising the space on my memory cards.

What I am talking about exactly, is an application wherby you type the capacity of your memory cards into it, for example:

468MB (would be usable space on 512MB card)
956MB (would be usable space on 1GB card)
1935MB (would be usable space on 2GB card)
3870MB (would be usable space on 4GB card)

You then start adding details for the homebrew or CSO/ISO you want to put on your memory cards, such as title and size. Continue doing this and as you add more, the program assigns them to your memory cards.

As you add more, and the memory cards are populated - and this is the clever part I suppose - the application would arrange them so they best make use of the space on the cards, maximising the amount you can have on your memory cards.

This then gives you an idea of what to place on what cards, making use of the space to its maximum.

As a secondary function, the application can store these details so you can refer to them or remove some titles, add new ones etc.

Take it even further by adding the ability to then load the assigned content onto the relevant memory card!

I may be behind in the times - so does anyone know if such an application already exists? I haven't found one to date.

I'm sure I'll now be met with replies along the lines of 'do the calculations yourself' etc. etc. Actually I do, on an Excel spreadsheet :P But its not as user friendly as an application would bel!

I have no programming knowledge so this is basically, just an idea.

Your thoughts please?

or just use usb/ iso plugin and play all your iso from your pc .

The problem with the idea is your going to land up with a sheit ton of games you wouldnt necesarly choose to bring with you. The games would be all jumbled up and hard to find. ie foot ball with driving , and vice versa. Its more a thing of taste which you put where. What do you want to play .... Not to mention , i dont think many people have zillions of memory cards. Theyre more expensive then the game you "backup"

An easy way to manually do this is in the window of your iso's click view,, then details , sort by size.. pick one game u must have , and one that fits in the extra....

i assume this came from the notion of ipod managment software,.. But for those theres a rating system attached to the files... Giving some sorta order to the mess it prouduces.

edit ..
i think your excell spread is the closest, and most efficient way to do this... If any thing , perhaps a simple transfer mechanism. that interacts with excell. or at the very least that you can create "ghost" type images ... like a playlist for winamp.... number them... then browse the ole excell sheet for what seems fun tonight ... and transfer. on your gui ,, it would show something like "football madness" . when you que up the transfer , the utility would identify the files , request you connect psp , or imput media into card reader , and auto places the files where needed.

inessance ,, i think the best would be something similar to a multi cd changer indexing system,, instead of cd's it would be indexing images of your ms,, and applying them.

but what do i know i have a 256 meg homebrew card,, a 1 gig , and a 2 gig.

Problem with that though, is you have to have your ISO's on the memory stick already, as I understand it. Can't see the use of that. I'm trying to eliminate the long transfer processes.

I disagree on all points. Why would it be a jumble? You mean not knowing what games you've put on what memory cards? Not really an issue as swapping a memory card over is quicker then swapping a UMD disc over and you get more choice from your memory card. There is also a tool called 'Game Order' which allows you to arrange menu items with ease too.

Again that doesn't make logically sense. I'd rather take a couple of memory cards around with me, which are smaller in size, containing several of my UMD "backups", then cart around UMD's individually!

Naturally, that is what I was doing, until I put together my spreadsheet.

Nope! Just off the top of my head :P Was wondering how it could be made a whole lot easier with an application taking away some of the leg work.

My spreadsheet is rather more simpler then that. I still have to do the transfer myself, but its made a hell of a lot easier thanks to the spreadsheet. Heres some screenshots with names pixelated to protect the innocent :P

This is the overview basically. You have the memory cards listed in size, and below them capacity, free and used MB details. Then below that is a list of the ISO's.

Here you can see the drop down list of ISO's as pre-defined on a seperate sheet with ISO image sizes. When you select from the drop down it fills the next cell along with the corresponding image size. The spreadsheet does all the necessary calculations and below you get a pie chart just for aesthetics showing you what amount of space is used and free in percentage.

but what do i know i have a 256 meg homebrew card,, a 1 gig , and a 2 gig.

512mb, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb here :P

Going to download this and give it a try. See if it does what I'm hoping.
