When it comes to yelling at your teammates that you're being attacked and begging for cover, nothing brings your point across better than voice communication. Of course, most games come with good ol' text chat but having to stop defending yourself just to ask for help is sure to lose you the match or game[...]

This is a great little program. Granted, I only use it when playing Left 4 Dead 2 with people from the forum and IRC, but the quality is much better than in-game chat hands down.

I'm a big fan of this myself, used to use it when playing TF2 and loved it, every bit as good as other similar programs.

Is there anyting Mumble offers over Ventrilo? Me and my friends have a vent server, which we use frequently, but apart from voice quality, does Mumble offer anything more?

Also, as a side not, really loving these Curious Findings, great job guys.

Yes, it runs on anything, and it takes up less bandwidth AFAIK. It's FOSS (no limitations..), newer, etc etc.

I'd love to take the Smart Talk section into Mumble. What really puts me off Smart talk is typing out long answers, the time it takes to respond. You could lay down even the biggest smart talk thread in a couple of minutes on mumble.

Possibly some organized 1v1 debates on certain subjects with users voting on which side had the better argument?

If this does happen I'd be more than happy to take notes and stick them in the smart talk section.

That sounds cool; if only you could use a voice-to-text application at the same time and document it, for people who don't use Mumble for whatever reason.

I'd like to discuss metal music with Chat.

Nah, there's just too much opinion on art. I like my facts.
I was more thinking something like abortion, gay marriage, trans-gender rights, god/religion.
I'm pro-abortion, pro gay marriage, pro trans-gender rights, atheist and severely anti-religion. If anyone feels strongly about the opposite of my position then I'd love to debate that.

Edit: Wait I'll take this out into its own thread in a few minutes.
