Dead Rising 2: Hands-Off Impressions

This game looks great. The first one was fun to screw around with but kind of a pain to try to play the story, this looks like it'll be hard to fuck up.

There should be a demo coming out soon anyways right? EDIT: Hmm, can't find anything on a demo. Really hope there is a demo

Why would they show the game when it's running like crap?

It was running fine, but to x3sphere and myself we could tell that there was some frame drops. Some people probably weren't seeing it, but we definitely were. It could've just been that one demo unit, although it was enough to make us step away.

That's pretty lame if you ask me. To not even give something the time of day cause it has a little slow down in a prerelease version? And to act like it's a game breaking issue when in reality it's "running fine" and it's something someone might not even notice?

Hopefully x3sphere will chime in. The issue was noticeable to us, and the day was coming to a close (10-15 minutes left on the show floor) so we decided to go elsewhere. I assumed a demo of the game would be coming up soon so I didn't give it a second thought.

The game had a serious issue with it that we noticed, and we weren't about to play that kiosk with the game like that. It's not a game-breaking issue, it was an issue for us that made us not want to play the game in its current state.

I understand your argument now, but I still think the article sounds a little sensationalist. Might give people who don't know much about the game a bias against it, and to not know the full details could leave a lot to their imagination.

If I video coincided with the article then it would be a non-issue.

It looked pretty janky to me, severely unpolished. Mind you, I never played the first Dead Rising and this was only one level. From a pure gameplay standpoint it looked fun but the sluggish framerate killed any appeal for me. I'm talking like 15 FPS. Literally looked like the game was running in slow-mo. Animation appeared choppy as a result. Felt like throwing up.

I still was willing to give it a try but there was someone else playing it at the time, so it was either wait for 20-30 minutes or go try something else on the show floor. I chose the latter.

I realize it is a prerelease version but the full game releases in what, 3 months? So I think criticism on performance are valid at this point. It's more like 2 months when you factor in production time.

Without a video I'd agree this article is borderline pointless. That's why I refrained from posting anything on it.

For what it's worth, the framerate should be a non-issue in the PC version, assuming you have a good enough rig.

Here's a video of the demo in question.

E3 2010: Dead Rising 2 footage

The video doesn't really seem to show the lag in question, but about half way through the video it looks to show some slight lag, although not exactly what we saw

Yeah, you can see the frame rate dips there. Was much more pronounced in person though.

Maybe they stopped off at a pot dispensary before hitting the show floor.

I know that would be my first stop.

Well I'll put it this way: It doesn't play as well as the trailer shows it off as playing, at least on the PS3 version. I checked out a trailer of the game and compared it with some of the off-floor footage that's online and it doesn't compare.

Here's one thing we know from the demo: the game is playing just at 30fps, no where near 60fps like an ideal game would have.

I don't think 30 fps is any less ideal than 60 fps for most games.

Most games don't run at 60 fps, just like most games don't run in 1080.

60fps is the goal of most developers now, it's not a hard target to reach for most games on the current platforms, especially the PS3

Dead Rising 2 was definitely running sub-30 (the PS3 version at least).
