There's a saying - good things come to those who wait. And it's true, our friends over at Noobz have released what countless PSP owners have been anxiously waiting for - a firmware 3.50 downgrader! Coupled with the downgrader files below and a Lumines UMD disc, any PSP unit available on the market can now be downgraded to firmware 1.5.

Once on 1.5, you can run many of the freely available homebrew applications. Or even upgrade to Dark_AleX's 3.40 OE-A - a souped up version of Sony's 3.40 firmware - featuring support for homebrew, various plugins that enhance your PSP experience, and original PSone games (not limited to just the PS Store titles).

In a nutshell: Homebrew is now accessible to all PSP owners! As always, refer to the readme for detailed instructions on how to downgrade.

Please note Noobz cannot be responsible if you brick, and be forewarned if you use this downgrader on a previously downgraded TA-082/86 PSP, you will lock yourself out from running any official Sony updates (don't worry, OE still works). However, Noobz plans to release a tool that will allow you to return to an official firmware in the future.

Downgrader for PSP v3.50 firmware [Noobz]

very nice....i'm sure a few of my mates would be delighted to hear this :D

WOO HOO!!!!!

i'm tempted to upgrade my PSP to official 3.5 just to downgrade it... XD

Just out of curiousity, this "locked out" if you try to upgrade to official firmware after downgrading (assuming 1.5 and not OE)... what does it do when you run the update? brick the PSP or just refuse to upgrade your firmware? I'm aware of the OE firmware "DADADADADADA" Error, but what does the 3.30+ firmware updates do if it detects that you've messed with your PSP?

The flood gates are open, bring on the water...

I talked to Mathieulh about it.

[18:36] Mathieulh: it can will check for the keys while running the 3.50 updater and will display an error saying that the update cannot be installed on the system
[18:36] Mathieulh: I do not remeber the exact error number
[18:36] Mathieulh: it will then go back to vsh by doing a soft reboot

So you'll just get the standard error message basically.

i don't get this, kinda. it means i can't do this:

3.XX OE -> 1.5 -> 3.5(Locked)

or does it mean something else.

Yes! This Rules! I need to buy me a copy of Lumines so I can downgrade my brother's PSP and also my friends PSP for a price! heh j/k I will probably help them for free! :)

This is great news but I'm getting another PSP just for running games that require 350 to play. My 340 OeA PSP is good enough for everything else. Besides, as of yet, I can't play my demo of Fireteam Bravo (Socom) on 340 OEA..

say you were previously on OE, then went to firmware 3.30 - 3.50 official. if you downgrade, you won't be able to run official updates. meh doesn't really matter though, like I said Noobz is working on a tool to fix it.

3.30+ examines the keys before upgrading. If they aren't valid, it refuses to upgrade (it doesn't brick, it simply won't update). The way to update is to fix the keys first. Someone (with my help) has already documented how to do this (over on MC). It's basically this:

Update to 2.71 official.
Fix the keys.
Update to 3.30+.

It's that simple. Sort of. After you update to 2.71 official, you have to use the 2.71 HEN to run homebrew to fix the keys. If you've done the corruption-free downgrade, this means just fixing key 5. Otherwise, you use KeyCleaner to fix all the keys but 5, THEN fix key 5. If you've used MY method of setting key 5, you can use 1.5 Enabler to revert it. KeyCleaner will change other methods of patching key 5 into mine, so that's not much of an issue.

It's damn hard to find a copy of lumines now. Maybe if I check in a couple of weeks I may find one.
