Square Enix's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, which shipped to North American retailers today for the Nintendo DS, includes a new copy protection scheme that attempts to discourage users from running an unauthorized copy of the game on certain DS flash cards.

Users of popular flash cards such as the R4 and M3 Simply are greeted with a "Thank you for playing!!" screen after twenty minutes of playing. Then, as if it were a demo, the game automatically quits.

Let's face it, it's almost inevitable that someone will crack the protection, but this seems like a good tactic to fight piracy in the short run -- seeing as pirates often give the "try before you buy" excuse for illegally downloading games.

Crystal Chronicles' Clever Piracy Protection [Wired]

guess , instead of downloading , We'll have to rob stores , good job squareenix

I think this is a good aproach instead of "DAMN YOU PIRATES! DIE!!" they kindly let us experience the game, to make us buy :)

BUT I didn't waste 128MB of internet bandwidth for nothing so here's a very neat workaround:

Use this cheat (Action Replay Code):

Low Game Time [Always 000:00:00]
0210E41C 00000000

since when you open the game it sets a random time to check the CRC, seeing that M3/R4 patch it AT THE FLY, it won't return the expecting CRC thus, showing the above screen, but keeping the timer at 0 shall do the trick. Because it won't reach that time to check it :)
Very similar to Dungeons and Dragons old copy protection... (Thank god this one wasn't like earthbound's XD)

Edit : ok....maybe not >_> neither work...nevermind me >_>

Btw, rofl @ krazykings sig XD
