Fat PSP running 4.05... NOTHING HOMEBREW WORKS. Screwed or not?

Hi everyone. I'm very new to homebrew and PSPs, but I'm not a total technological idiot.

That said, I've got a fat (I assume this means the thick black one. :P) PSP running 4.05 as its system software. It wasn't until I upgraded it unwittingly while playing a newly purchased game.

That said.

I successfully pried open my battery to soft it into a Pandora battery, however I HAVE NOT cut the fifth pin yet because I discovered on http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3780 that thread, a Pandora converter for the battery.

I was vaguely annoyed that I spent 3 hours delicately sawing away at my battery with an exacto knife (praying I didn't contact anything) and prying at it with guitar picks and wooden double-pointed knitting needles. I have PSP-101 battery, and it was... very tightly sealed. I can't get the top case back on, but I'm not too concerned about that right now.

Am I mistaken in believing that I do NOT, indeed, need to cut the 1C04 fifth pin to use my current battery as a Pandora battery?

The software will not let me install an update that is of a lower number than the current update (hope that makes sense) - when I have tried to use homebrew firmware to downgrade into a lower OS, it gives me the error message, "The game could not be started. (80020148)" When I tried to install the Pandora converter for my battery to make the re-partitioned memory stick, it gave me the same message.

In essence, everything I've put on this thing so far -has not worked- at all.

What am I doing wrong? Please don't link me to more forums, I'm tired of reading forums, as I've been doing since 3am this morning. It's now 8am central. I'd like a clearcut series of directions to follow... well, if that involves a link, please tell me which part of it to follow, because this is getting a little tiresome.

Thanks in advance, sorry for the churlishness, haven't slept yet.

You are using SCE official FW.

Your hosed till you find some one near by to produce the pandoras for you.

I havent kept up on the new batteries theyre releasing, but as far as i know theres absolutely no reason to saw your battery apart. Pandoras can be created and RETURNED TO NORMAL via software , on a hacked psp.

People cut open batteries 3 years ago, to learn of the chip inside and reverse pandoras, now , i see no reason to destroy a battery, hard modding it , wont get you where you want as you will still need the MS files .

Where are you located?
