In a press release filled with much-deserved gloating, Sony revealed today that recently re-released PSOne classic Final Fantasy VII shifted over 100,000 units on PlayStation Network in just two weeks, securing top honors for the most downloaded piece of content during the week of June 17.
To break things down from a dollar perspective, that equates to around $1,000,000 in revenue before licensing and related fees for simply releasing a bare-bones conversion of the original. Not surprising when taking the sheer popularity of this particular entry into account, but still impressive nonetheless.
Question is: will these strong sales finally motivate Square Enix to create a proper, full-fledged remake? We can only hope so. On the other hand, they may choose to continue teasing us fans with more spin-offs set in the FFVII universe. Honestly, though, we feel the cow has been milked enough: it's time for a remake.
