The achievements are discontinued. Support told me that there is no connection between the game and the achievements and even if you get an earlier version, you won't be able to get past the forced update message.

Glad I got a good chunk of them way back when. (Apparently a mind-boggling 8 years ago!)
4 of my 5 rarest achievements are from Minion Rush. :)
