It's over. The format war is over. According to a report from the Japanese NHK broadcasting network, Toshiba has decided to withdraw its high-definition HD-DVD format from production, and is in the process of closing down its manufacturing facilities located in Aomori Prefecture, Japan.

Toshiba is expected to suffer losses in the billions of yen (read: millions of US dollars) as it halts production on HD-DVD players and recorders. The company has not given a statement over the matter yet, but official word is expected soon.

Who did not see this comming...... *Cough*HD DVD supporters*cough* ?

Oh well if this turns out to be true, then we will finnally see Blu Ray Disc's go down in price along with the players, as Blu Ray would be the last one standing in the format war (it would also work Vise versa if HD DVD won).

Although i am glad i go a PS3 and didn't get a HD DVD player yet, and if Blu Ray did truely win, i got myself already set up for Blu Ray video playing :)
