Help Converting DVD Movies to PSP

So, here's the problem I'm having. To sum it up, I'm having issues getting my DVD movies onto my PSP... but it's not that simple.

I started out using DVD Decrypter and PSP Video 9. At first, this worked. PSP Video 9 successfully converted two movies (The Godfather Pt II and The Last Unicorn) a few days ago. Then, I ripped one of my Sailor Moon (don't laugh) DVDs, and tried to convert it. The conversion went to 100% in under a minute, but never actually finished. I tried to reconvert both of the movies that already worked, and I had the same issue.

When I enable the debug console to see the error, here's what I'm getting:

(continue ad nauseum)

This happens with everything I try, now.

I'd post about this on the help forums for the program (PSP Video 9), but registration requires confirmation, and I never got the email. Yes, I've been checking my spam folder... it's not there.

I don't have my heart set on using this particular program, but I do kinda want to be able to watch my movies on my PSP. Any help resolving this issue or finding another way to accomplish the end would be very much appreciated.

Try 3GP, its the best application I've found for converting movies to a PSP compatible format.

i second tht post, also if u want to rip the dvd again (could of been the dvd ripping program thts causing the problem) u could use total video converter (search on google). U get a 14day trial but can rip it straight to any format u want (i would advise going to divx then convertin to mp4 via 3gp converter, makes the file smaller and still has the same quality)

I would suggest psp video express. It may not compress very well but the quality and ease of use make it a winner. Also if it only takes about a 30 minutes for a 2 hour movie. While this is all happening you get to watch the movie in fast speed if you want cut out parts you dont want. I don't put many movies on psp but for me this programs been great also it goes straight into your movie folder. I think it only takes avi format.8)

I downloaded 3GP, ran set-up, and then ran the program. I chose the compression format (without really knowing what I'm doing; I picked QVGA/15fps/216 kbps Mono/48 kbps and the MP4 for PSP model), dragged the ripped movie file into the top window, and watched it go. It got to 100% after about five minutes, but it took more than 12 hours to actually be done. When I tried to watch the file... corrupted data.

Which folder did you put the mp4 in? Try both of these:

MP_ROOT\100MNV01
MP_ROOT\101ANV01

I use total video converter and it does the job for me. It even makes th .thm file.

I finally got sick of this, uninstalled everything, and started over. I don't know what changed, but 3GP will convert movies now. There's still a long hang at 100%, but the total time is only about an hour and a half, and the files work.

I still have one question, and it's minor. Is there a way to enable subtitles?

Unfortunately there is no way to do it from within 3GP. However, you can encode your VOB file to DiVX/XviD format using AutoGK, leaving the subtitles burned into the outputted AVI. Then load that AVI into 3GP. Two step process, but it works xD

Never tried PSP Video 9.. does it support subtitles?

As far as I can tell, PSP Video 9 doesn't support much. :P

It's very user-friendly until it fails to do what you asked it to with no obvious reason why. I've given up using it. I didn't see a way to enable subtitles are choose a language, though.

One question - why were you trying to encode to xvid at 1500 kbps? Why not avc at 400 to 700 kbps instead? AVC has hardware support (less battery power), and can use a lower bitrate for the same quality (700 kbps avc looks at least as good as 1400 kbps xvid). It takes longer to encode as it's more complex, but that's not a big downside for most folks.
