Help upgrading Japan PSP...

I just got a PSP from japan and it comes with OFW 4.01 and I'm planning to upgrade.. Of course I know how to upgrade a psp but my question is, do I have to use a OFW from Japan to upgrade it? Is US OFW compatible with Japan PSP? I tried to search the forums but got no result so far. If there's a link for a thread like this, please post the link. Thank you..
 
It wouldn't hurt to try. I'm sure if it doesn't work with the japan version, there is some security that will stop it.
 
The updates are all the same, you can use whichever you want/like/have :)

I have a EU PSP and usually used the US updates for updating.
 
Sony updates are not regional. The JAP/EUR updates are the exact same one's as the USA there are no difference.
