Help with Legend Of Legaia

I'm having issues with Legend of Legaia. The game runs fine at first but once I get to the portion where I train with the monk on the beach - it freezes. I'm using POPS 3.10 and it locks every time. I have POPSloader installed so I can use another firmware, has anyone encountered this or found a way around this?

My PSP is an original fat system running cfw 3.80 m33-5. I appreciate any forthcoming help.
