Instead of "Press X to start the update, R to exit." it says
"Some of your id storage keys have not the correct values, probably due to a downgrader. in order to continue, press X to restore the correct values, press R to exit."

What does that mean? Will It be ok to push X and will there be any chance of bricking it?
What is ID storage keys?

What is ID storage keys?

The ID Storage contains data that is unique to every PSP. It should be ok but if you want to be on the safe side then backup your keys with Chilly Willy's ID Storage manager.

When you boot it up hit square to backup all keys to the memory stick, then exit the program once it is finished. Don't choose any of the other options.

thanks. I don't get where to put the files?

Just copy the "IdStorageManager" folder to PSP/GAME, then run it from the Game menu.

ok even with the read me files inside? any chance of messing up my psp?

Well you don't have to copy the readme files over. Doesn't matter if you do though.

If you have questions, be sure to ask BEFORE you actually try to fix the keys. :)

Have KC analyze the keys, and then ask if you have a question. Be sure to report what KC said about the keys.

So did this actually work? I have the exact same problem when trying to upgrade to 3.90 m33 from 3.52 m33-4. Feels scary to accidently brick the psp and have to sort that out... if possible.

It will allways say that because 3.52 m33-4 and - use key 5 patched, the installer of 3.71 M33 and + unpatches it, because you won't need it anymore. It's normal press Xm I garante you that you won't brick.

As you said, everything went smoothly and all is working like a charm.

Thank you for the help and the quick reply.

i have 3.52 m33-4 and want to update to 4.01 m33-2, i get the same id storage error and was wondering if i need to run id storage manager or not. i think i have a t082 motherboard, the motherboard has IC1003 and IC 6001 on it. what should i do?

Hmm.. what error? You mean the message shown in the first post? If so, that's normal. Before upgrading to 4.01 M33-2 on a 3.52 M33-4 or lower TA-082/086 unit the installer needs to unpatch key 5.
