Infinity Ward: MW2 Outsold CoD 4 On PC

Boycotts be damned, the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 seems to be performing exceptional at retail, having outsold its predecessor in terms of first week sales. This is according to Infinity Ward community manager Robert “402″ Bowling, who wrote the following in a forum post on the developer’s official site:Yes, PC is the smallest [...]

What a surprise.

Why buy it when all they do is moan.

Flame on?

People gotta moan at something, they found a good excuse in MW2

That's hilarious. I went to a couple local computer stores here and asked about the PC version of MW2 and none of them knew what I was talking about. A couple of them went out of their way and found out there's a small locked drawer in the back room that no one new about that housed the MW2 copies.

Judging by this response, I don't think anyone went to buy a copy for the PC around here...

Same thing here, the cashier had no idea what I was on about and had to ask someone else about it.

I looked around at all the stores around here and none of them had it for PC. Only one guy knew what I was talking about because he had steam

I got the pc now but the only thing I really do miss is LAN for computers. they could atleast make a ingame server LAN instead of a loop internet.

oh well lifes goes on. I glad my COD4 and WAW still kickin

Considering it's a Steam-based game you won't find many copies in stores so that shouldn't be surprising

When The Orange Box launched here it practically took over the entire PC section, as well as occupying the "Deal Of The Week" space for about three weeks. €30 for 5 games at launch, which was lower than Steam's price, even when it only did prices in USD.

So.. I don't see how Steam games have a more limited retail. Even TF2 and Portal got full retail releases (at €20 each).

What does it being on Steam have to do with anything? I've never seen any game's store presence affected by it being on a digital distribution platform before MW2.

Probably so they get a copy without waiting.

BECAUSE ITS SO BAD WITHOUT THE SERVERS BUT LETS GET IT ANYWAY!

I'm not even going to bother, but Steam does have an affect on retail presence and sales...

Sales? Probably. But I've never seen a game that is on Steam not be advertised/placed on special new release shelves by local computer stores. When local computer stores have no clue what you're talking about when you ask them about MW2 on the PC? That's what I call presence being affected.

I've never seen this happen with any other game.

I would just attribute that to the clerks being morons or just not that informed when it comes to games. MW2 was more or less being shown off as a console game, as are most games these days, so that maybe had an effect. As far as steam impacting it, I haven't seen many steam-based games in my stores that I go to (heck L4D wasn't even that prevalent in any stores I went to when it first came out).

Agreed.

The clerks must be uninformed and this game was being advertise as a console game more than a PC game.
And games that are on steam, I don't normally find in the PC game section.

Sure The Orange Box was easy to find but that is because it was advertised more as a PC game.
