Error message "cannot read memory card, please go to system and format memory card"

When I tried to format the memory card it saids "memory card not inserted"

So I have no clue what is wrong, :confused1:

Oh yeah, I posted a month ago about some weird crashes, and you guys said that it could be the memory card. So I bought a new memory card, just that it hasn't come in yet. So I didn't get a chance to test and see if it's the memory card or the psp. I was actually waiting till I get the new memory card until I backup all my game saves....

OPen up any folder and press triangle>information is thould say Magic Gate supported, if it does not i would still say it is the card.

Worth trying though, formatting via PC and tehn manuall create the folders required.

Pretty much just a PSP folder, with a GAME folder inside and then a ISO folder.

yeah you could do what january39 said but there is another method of repairing this card by using a homebrew!., I don't remember what homebrew it is but still It repaired my fake memory stick at least 3 months and then I received my new Transcend memory stick!...

maybe january39 know this homebrew!.

I tried formatting through the pc. But an error came up at the end "Windows was unable to completely format the disc." I tried opening the disk. But a message came up, saying that the disk isn't formatted and that I should format it.

Also, I can't open any folders on the psp with the memory stick still in the psp. The only folder I can open is the Saved Data Utility. Which when I do, an error pops up saying that the memory stick cannot be read, and that I should format it..., :crying:

Thank you for they help though.

Hmmm, i would say it is a fake ms, they often through up loads of errors.

See if you can borrow a confirmed working MS and try it on your PSP to ensure it is not hardware fault

I don't know anyone else with a psp, unless I was still living with my uncle. But I do have a memory card coming in. So I guess time will tell..., Thank you for all the help, very much appreciated 8)

well from what i've heard, it sounds like a memory card fault.

just to clarify, you need to be an administtartor to format drives on windows. if you are on vista try running it as a admin by right clicking and run as admin

My new memory card just came in. A new 8 gig, and when I put the memory card in, it read! I was happy,

I uploaded 2 games onto it which total about 1.6 gigs, and it took about 12 minutes. After that, I shut off the psp to get a drink.

I came back and turn it on, and the psp wasn't able to read the memory card..., :confused1: , I continuously restarted the psp, but it still wouldn't read it....

The memory card is brand new, how could it have only lasted 12 minutes, :confused1:

Have you checked to make sure it is a genuine card?? Rule that out first

Well, it was another card off ebay I must admit. But I would had suspect it to last longer then just 12 minutes... Or did my psp get to the point where it could only read real psp memory sticks, :confused1:

On a side note, I finally managed to format my first 4 gig memory stick on the pc. The psp can read it in the format state which comes out to only 122 mb out of 3.5 gig even when I have nothing on there.

But when I start putting stuff on it, the memory stick gets currupted again...

But the strangest part is, even the pc couldn't read the 8 gig memory stick....

Thank you so much for this info. I can now confirm that my old 4 gig and my new 8 gig memory sticks are fakes, :crying:
