New NPD hardware sales figures reveal that the PlayStation 3 outsold both the Nintendo DS and Xbox 360 in January. Overall, the PS3 took second place, coming in less than a few thousands units shy of surpassing the Wii.[blockquote2] * Wii 274K

* Xbox 360 230K[/blockquote2]With numbers like this, you can almost call it a tie. Obviously, the Wii and DS numbers took quite a dive due to supply shortages as of late. NPD reports that the industry racked in $1.18 billion in January 2008, down 6 percent from last year's $1.25 billion. Why a decline in revenue? Simple. January 2007 was a 5-week month, while January 2008 was a 4-week month.
