Nintendo's motion-sensing wonder hit another sales milestone this month in Japan, as Famitsu makes it official that the Wii has sold through 8 million units.

The Nintendo Wii made its debut on December 2, 2006 in Japan. While it still remains the top-selling console in the region, sales have tapered off over the past couple months, leading company bigwig Satoru Iwata to label the current market situation as "unhealthy."

With that said, Nintendo's plans to revitalize and once again spur Wii interest in Japan are unknown at this point, but it's clear something is being worked on. The Wii is still selling at a faster pace than any other piece of hardware over there, bar the DS, so it is safe to say they aren't exactly worried. Perhaps Monster Hunter Tri will shake things up, considering the effect it had on PSP in Japan.
