Laggy performance after 3.90 M33-2 upgrade

Hi all,

I've been using Dax's stuff since 3.40oe, and have never had a problem with running games whether from a UMD or from memory stick.

However, I recently upgraded to 3.90 M33-2 and am having some strange issues....some of my games have taken a performance hit while in-game.

The most notable difference is with Tekken - Dark Resurrection. The game loads fine, gets to the menu, but I noticed that at the character selection screen it takes a few more seconds to load the character artwork.

Then, while in a fight, there is a noticeable lag while executing certain moves. I used to have flawless full speed with all of my games, but now there are lag spikes when I go to do a combo.

I have always used default CPU speed, but after these lag issues I decided to set the CPU to 300. I went back into Tekken, and this did speed things up but did not solve the lag issue entirely...for example, I used the new female char Lily, and with one of her dropkick-like moves the PSP seems to freeze a little as if it's too much to handle.

A few things to note in case they are of any importance: Daedalus has crashed my PSP a few times while trying to run games that weren't yet compatible, same with gpSP. Usually emulator crashes don't have longtime effects, but I'm not an expert on it so who knows.

And another thing, I have been frequently taking off my faceplate to mod my D-pad, but am always super careful with the plate off and don't think I've damaged any internal components.

Please offer any advice if possible, I don't like the thought of having a bad system =\

Sony needed to make room in the NAND for the Phat, so they rewrote their FAT filesystem code to be smaller. Unfortunately, it also made it much slower. Sony doesn't mind since they only run things like demos or PS1 games off the memstick. I'm sure Sony also doesn't mind that it made "backups" run from the memstick slower.

If it really bothers you too much, don't update past 3.70 M33. If you go to 3.80 or 3.90 (or any future updates), you'll just have to hope that D_A can replace the driver eventually.

Thanks for the info, that sounds like what's causing my trouble. It seems to only be effecting more intensive 3d games like Tekken...I tried Jeanne D'arc and it didn't seem to show any lag.

There's already a phat psp ms 3.71 loader fix for 3.80m33 and 3.90m33 you can find it in these forums.

Thank you very much guys, I'll try it when I get home from work and let you know how it goes in case anyone else has the same issue

I just tried on my PSP and it works flawlessy at 60 fps with no slowdowns, from ISO and UMD
Ir lags a bit in CSO but if you put it at 266 MHz it will work fine.

I have 3.90 M33-2 + 1.50 kernel and 3.71 Fatmsmod (3.71 Memory stick driver mod)

Hi everyone,

I used the patch and my PSP is back to normal, everything running full speed.

I'm really glad Dax was able to fix that...the lag was terrible...I understand why Sony may have implemented that new coding, but it sure did suck for a minute there.
