3DS Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Receiving 3DS Sequel

With this morning's Nintendo Direct, Reggie Fils-Aime, current Nintendo of America President, announced that the Nintendo 3DS will be receiving a new Legend of Zelda game this holiday season. This is not a remake of a classic like we've seen recently from Nintendo with Wind Waker HD and Ocarina of Time on the 3DS but rather a sequel to a classic.

The new Zelda, currently only named in Japan as The Legend of Zelda: Kamigami no Triforce 2 (The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2), will be a sequel to the world-renowned SNES title A Link to the Past.

The game is said to take place in the same game world as the SNES title but offer an entirely new story and dungeons.

Looks awesome. Must say this is a pleasant surprise, I thought we'd see a Majora's Mask 3D before they brought out an original title. Nintendo is stepping up its game.

Was surprised as well to see this announced. Glad they didn't do a full half-baked 3D zelda either - the classic top-down is the way to go on handhelds.
