After a 4 year run and three expansions later, Konami's announced that the servers that power Metal Gear Online will be shut down in the coming months - effective June 12.

The title was bundled in with US copies of Metal Gear Solid 4, while Japan saw a standalone release. Konami was hit with a hefty amount of criticism over its decision to rely on a separate ID system, circumventing PSN's own login[...]

you know, when a game shuts down it's online system, in my opinion, they should then release the server's software for the game, and update the game to allow users to enter ip addresses to servers, so at the very least, fans can continue to play the game if they so choose.
 
I'm sad. But i'm also not sad. Because the game had some serious issues that Konami refused to fix.

I'll miss all the people I got to know from playing the game for over 1000+ hours(over the first 2.5 years). It's an experience for me that no other single Multiplayer Game can come close to matching for me.

Crysis 2 came near it, but it was just as broken/became even more broken thanks to Crytek.
