Music of today good or bad?

Just wanted to know people's opinion and if i'm the only one who thinks that 2000's music sucks. IMO music died in the 90's.

It totally depends on what genres someone listens to. The stuff I mainly listen to come into it's own in the 2000s with my favourite albums being released in 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2006. For the disco fans, then yeah, the decade kinda sucked.

No way, this decade was great. I think the worst decade for music was the 80s, don't like a whole lot that came out of that decade.

wow i knew someone just had to say that.

Then it's probably true.

The 2000's, to me, was the decade of music discovery. The music being produced by record companies started to stagnate. Of course, with the rise of the internet, it became easier for talented artists to get their stuff heard.

There's still a ton of great music out there, you just have to find it. You wont have it delivered to you via the radio or television.

Actually, I'd argue that it's been one of the best decades for music. Not only is the technology to create professional music more widely available (thanks to things like Garageband), but you don't have to get signed by a major label to get heard. There's a lot more crap to sift through, sure, but just because of shear volume, there's a lot more quality too.

If you haven't been satisfied by the last decade of music, you haven't been looking hard enough. That, or you haven't let your musical palette grow, at all. If you're only going to listen to what you listened to when you were a kid, then of course you're going to find discovering new music difficult.

also i do enjoy some bands of today but i do not like genres like rap.

Open your mind, listen to Sage Francis, or Lupe Fiasco, and call me back... I'd be willing to bet your experience with rap hasn't gone further than Lil' Wayne, which would explain your distaste for it.

Its all a matter of perspective, as are the vast majority of debates on the internet. I love a lot of the new bands today, such as The Shins, Vampire Weekend and John Butler. There are good bands for your genre, you just have to look a little harder. This is coming from a previous classic rock loyalist.. back in grade 8, lol.

Makes me want to strangle you. Honestly what have you been listening to? If just the usual mainstream crap on the radio aimed at teenage girls then yeah I can see why you think that. There's plenty of artists pushing the boundaries out there, but without knowing what genre you're into it is a little hard to give recommendations.

Myself, I'm overwhelmed with all the great music out there. It's hard to find time to listen to it all. I suggest checking out music blogs like Bigstereo or Fluxblog.

Didn't read the thread. Probably going to echo what everyone else said

No, music does not suck. This decade had the indie music rising. Any local band had a MySpace page. Everyone had a chance. There's got to be tons of good indie music somewhere in the maze. I mean, take a look at DiabaseCollective, madsoul's band. I wouldn't have found them if I wasn't on QJ.
Sure, the record labels have started to stagnate. But if you actually care enough about music, you should get out there and look for some! There are plenty of people who care about music out there. Take a look at this year's Xmas no. 1 in the UK. The record companies might have a lot to consider going into 2010. People want good music! People need a new music business plan.
Artists make more money than ever. Piracy is killing the music industry but music has never been more alive. The reason why mainstream music sucks is because that's where the labels are getting money. So turn off the radio, build up a robust iPod list and get an account on last.fm. This decade, music has evolved but you might have to take some time to look for it.

Visit the thread in Audio Visual about the decade's greatest albums. Get listening.

Rah rah ah-ah-ah!
Ro mah ro-mah-mah
Gaga Ooh-la-la!
Want your bad romance

Well the pop industry's dead.

A lot of the mainstream stuff IMO does suck, but if you dig a bit deeper, almost every genre has a thriving 'scene', and there are hundreds of bands playing tiny clubs and putting out Demos and EPs. Everyone said Thrash was dead until a few years ago, when a few bands decided to pick it back up, and now its the big thing in metal again.

Nah I think music of today is still good.

Rap/Hip-hop is the main genre I listen to and I've enjoyed it, just try to sway away from the mainstream that sucks, some mainstream is actually decent.

wow i knew someone just had to say that.(Can't take an opinion i see)

And that's exactly what your view on the decade is, and what other peoples is, an opinion. A lot of people don't like rap, hip hop, or other genres, not everybody is going to like everything, but that doesn't necessarily mean the decade sucked.

What it usually means is that you either haven't looked enough into what you like, or....yeah.

they all suck

It seems odd to me that you didn't have proper grammar in these posts, except for your last one.
