When I want to listen to a new artist I find the process of finding their top tracks, listening to the tracks, downloading them and then moving onto a similar artist to be really disconnected so I created this tool to try and streamline the process.

You can you create custom links to music related sites you use regularly. You type a link and place a %1 where the artist name should be and %2 where the album name should be.
For example to quickly go to the what.cd page for an artist you could create a link like "http://what.cd/artist.php?artistname=%1" then for every artist you open there'll be a link to their what.cd page.

It uses the last.fm API to gather information on artists/albums and the Youtube API to play tracks. Sometimes youtube can't find a good video for a song and will start playing the wrong song, sorry but there's nothing I can do about that yet.

Any bug reports/suggestions are welcome. Let me know what you think.

I'm working on improving the link generator atm, the placement of the links is a bit awkward and the generator is a bit ugly.

PS: I wonder if the konami code does anything... wait for 0:56.
 
This is pretty great, I never really took advantage of last.fm's similar artists feature because it was such a hassle to listen to them and see if I liked them. I think I might use this a lot, thanks!

By the way, that Konami Code thing was fucking amazing.

That isn't a bad thing entirely though. I managed to find an great remix of one of my favorite songs thanks to this issue.

That's basically why I created this, nothing catered to the way I go about finding music so I decided to make it myself.

I'm repurposing the box on the right to fill more roles than just a playlist (having that link tab up top just felt wrong). I'm also working on making the links look a little better. Oh and scrobble support will be there too.

Wow I'm an idiot, if you found that it was getting the completely wrong song since the update that was my bad. I had it searching the song title only without the artist name. Should be much better now.
 
Excellent stuff. Songs don't play in browsers with a FlashBlock though. Tried Chrome and Firefox. Runs like a dream in Opera though.
 
Songs play from youtube so it'd need flash. I forgot to show an error if flash isn't enabled, I'll add that tomorrow.

If you enjoy it please try to get it out there, the problem now is that I've made it but can't get it out to people.
