Need YOUR input on an Indie Games Shop

Hello everyone I posted on here beacuse I thought this topic would be answered best by people like you guys.

Anyways lets get to the point. I am Assistant Manager of a small indie video game chain (4 stores) and we need some ideas to get more customers to come to us and more reasons for them to stay with us instead of going off to the supermarkets or online.

Here are the questions I would like to ask you all:

1, What would YOU like and want to see in a video game store?

2, What would YOU expect to see in a video game store?

3, What do YOU think would be awesome to have in a video game store?

4, What would keep YOU going to a local indie retailer over a national supermarket or going online?

Feel free to be honest and far out with your replies they are all very welcome and will help to boost business.

Many thanks to everyone in advance!!!

Personally I don't visit stores anymore because their location so a good location is always important. The one thing that I love to see in retail shops are demo kiosks so I can try out some games before I buy them. It's good to have promotions going on a lot as well and offer good deals on used games (that's where most of GameStop's business is from if I'm not mistaken).

The only reason I generally go to shop online is if they have good deals or if I'm in no rush to get a game. However I generally visit local stores if I'm in need of a new game on launch date (or around launch). The only reason I go to stores these days are for good deals and nothing else (2 for 1 deals especially). So I guess that's all it really comes down to for me.

Thank you very much for your reply, because I'm from the UK we don't have GameSpot over here what kind of deals do they do that interests you?

I haven't been to one in a while, but most of their deals dealt with the used games they had. 20% off used games or buy one used game, get one for free. Those are really the only deals that have interested me in the past.

1 : Freebies, magazines, reviews, posters for sale and other merchandise (aside from the game itself)
2 : The games it has to sell, the platforms for the games
3 : Cutely dressed women atracting customers :)
4 : Low prices

Seeing as you're from the UK, as well as me, have you not realised how ignorant staff at stores are? Especially Gamestation. But anyway, I'd like:

- Pre-owned games/consoles
- A range of retro games/consoles
- Merch
- 'Try before you buy' - May be a little out there...

we have a shop called Plan N' Trade where they have 4 bigass tvs where you can try out games
so its not that out there.

+1 for that. (make sure their cute to :P) jk haha Most of the time, you need to have a digital distibution system to, and possibly be able to ship games. Location is another big issue, if its not placed right, you will NEVER get any customers, no matter how much you put into the advertising campaign.
