It's a homebrew shell, using it won't actually "replace" your XMB. It does provide most of the same functions that are in the XMB though such as a photo viewer, system info, accessing USB, etc.
It does write onto your flash1 files but not your flash0. If done correctly, it will not harm your PSP in any form. You can still use your original XMB.
And yes. You can uninstall it as well, by going into the installer and pressing "Uninstall".
