Newbie here, need help with installing firmware

Hi, I am a complete newbie to this psp programming stuff. I have a psp that is version 3.71. I would like to get the 4.01 m33 or the highest available. I am having a lot of trouble following the guides here. I think they're written for someone smarter than myself. :blushing: Everytime that I download one of the versions and find the directions to install, it says I need a different version first. If someone could please help me out with this in very simple directions, it would be much appreciated.

Also, what does it mean to brick my psp? I see that a lot. And I cannot seem to figure out what a pandora is.

The main reason I want to do this is to unlock the blurriness from the manhunt 2 game. I happened upon a way to do it, but it requires the latest version of the m33 custom firmware. Before that, I didn't even know there was custom programming for the psp.

If and when I do get custom firmware, will it affect gameplay in any psp games? And what do these custom firmwares actually do?

I know these may sound like stupid questions, but I am very new to this. Thank you very much.

First you'll need to downgrade with Pandora Battery.

@ max384:

you need a Pandora Battery (magic ms & jigkick mode battery) to convert your psp to Custom Firmware
and if your using Custom Firmware 3.71 m33 you can just update it to Custom Firmware 4.01 m33-2 by downloading Sony's Official Firmware 4.01 & Dark Alex's CFW 4.01 m33-2

regarding brick:
Brick = When the PSP wont turn on
Semi Brick = When PSP will enter recovery mode but wont turn on
Full Brick = When PSP wont acess recovery mode or turn on

no no no he must download 4.01 m33 then update 2
