Noob Questions Help plox :)

So Recently I've been looking at all the custom firmwares and home brew stuff, have become extremely interested at all the different things you can do.
BUT
I've been trying to follow the custom firmware installation guides but have not been successful. Always put the "UPDATE" folder in the right place but when i start the update my psp gives me an error
"The Game could not be started"
(80020148 )

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

You need to be on the right firmware to run the update.Use Pandora and a magic memory stick.This guide should help.

Hmm... Can't seem to get into the recovery mode XD

U wont be able to get it into recovery mode until after u have CFW on it
