Photography Contest April 2009 - Landscapes

I keep going past this awesome view on the way to work but managed to forgot my camera for the second day running.

I might have to get up at the butt-crack of dawn 2moro and rush over there. Has to be at dawn as once the sun is up high it's nothing to look at.

Awesome! Good luck with that. I would love to see it.

Don't forget to put it in the submissions thread.

I'm struggling to find time to maintain these contests regularly and with the few amount of submissions I'm starting to wonder if it's worth running them. So to try and entice more people to enter I'm thinking of relaxing the rules to appeal to more people, just want to get some input from everyone else.

Things I'm thinking of:

Editing in photoshop allowed (so those without SLR's can play with lighting levels and focal points too).
Old photos allowed (but cannot be reused once they are entered into a contest).
Submission thread opened when the contest starts (kind of a no brainer and I don't know why I haven't done this from the start).
Multiple entries allowed to give more choices for voting.
Winner picks three themes and it is then voted on which one is used by everyone that entered.

So what are everyones thoughts on those, and feel free to suggest your own ideas.

I don't like the idea of editing in photoshop. It becomes an editing competition.

Everything else would definitely be welcome though.

I think you have a good thing going. I would only agree with the multiple entries, the winner selects three themes and then gets voted on, and the submission opened when contest starts.

All the other ones would ruin the fun.
Editing photos? That would make it a editing contest like whisper said. Not everyone knows how to edit things in photoshop. But everyone knows how to take pictures with a camera.
Old photos? No way. That would ruin the fun of actually going out and taking new pictures.
Just because there aren't a lot of people participating, does not mean it's a bad thing :).

To slasher, the twigs are a big problem in that photo. It's taking up way too much of the photo and is blocking what you're really trying to capture.

MY OPINION of course :P

I was sort of thinking that the twigs add an artistic twist to the photo. They seem very much more sharper compared to the rest of the photo and I thought it looked neat.

You're right. The twigs are sharper. And that's why the focus is on the twigs. It's sharper, it's in front, and it's covering a lot of the picture.

Of course it's my opinion again. I hate to act like I'm right, but I'm only one person here. Wait for several other responses.

By the way, is there where you live? You have such awesome scenery around you.

hahah no, that's Niagara Falls in case you didn't know. I live pretty close to there though. You can see some of the falls in my submission photo.

The bridge in that photo is called the Rainbow Bridge, basically taking you from Canada over to the US.

Here's another photo. I don't think it's good enough to be submitted though. It was kind of a dull day when I was taking my photos, it would've looked a lot better if it was bright and sunny (and if I had a real camera instead of my camera phone...)

Right well if there's no objections to those then I'll run with them from next month.

I wasn't too sure about the other two, just threw them out to get opinions.

@Slasher: I'm jealous. I wish I had scenery like you where I live. You've managed to get some great shots this month.

I'll post my entry soon :D It's on the laptop right now, and someone else is using it.

An hour left for any submissions.

I'm not going to get an entry in for the theme that I chose :(

Woke up too late (by 7 hours) to get a dawn picture and didn't have time before work to get anywhere with a nice view.
