Finally started playing through GTA IV on PC.

Oops, fixed. Yeah, the graphics in GTA IV aren't the best. I have to say it does have a sense of scale that no other game has though. The world just feels huge.

Those screens look well nice. Question though, why DX9 mode and not DX10?

I get about 5 FPS less in DX10 and there is literally no IQ difference that I can see. There's also some weird bugs in DX10.. like white dots on the bottom of certain trees, happens on both NV/ATI hardware, seems to be a long standing game bug.

This card is amazing though. The performance I get here is more than twice what my old GTX275 got at only 1920x1200.

I'm not sure, but you should get better performance in DX9 regardless of the settings used. I just checked something though and DX9 uses quite a bit more RAM than DX10, almost double. So maybe that is why they chose DX10 as the default renderer? Back when Crysis was released, a lot of people still had only 1GB RAM.

Here's a new Oblivion character I made. He's actually a pure mage, the first time I've played one without using armor or staves. Should be fun. He's a High Elf with the Apprentice birthsign.

His name is Gahetabr Seedpacer. I'm quite proud of him, considering he's my best looking character I've made and has the best name out of all of them. You can't really see it in that shot but I spent a lot of time on the face; upwards of an hour. The complexion isn't pasty like most Oblivion characters and short of the point ears he actually looks realistic.
