Remember those leaked images of that new PlayStation 3 model? People were expecting Sony to announce the new hardware design at this year's Gamescom, but it looks like that may not be the case after all. Well, at least according to a source close to VG247. This unknown fellow claims that Sony's stock of the current PlayStation 3 model is too high, so an announcement for a redesign will not be happening.

Additionally, the source has confirmed (read: "confirmed") that the 16GB version of the PlayStation 3 that is supposedly in the works is in fact real.

I also hear rumors of a much cheaper price point for this 16GB starter system, with rumors of even a $99 box :S Dunno how likely a $99 box is, but to hear that they're aiming for a cheaper price point again is nice.
