PlayStation 3 sales aren't just doing well in Japan, but in the US, too. According to Sony CEO Howard Stringer, the PS3 has seen a considerable increase in sales following the introduction of the $399 40GB model and price cuts on both the 60GB and 80GB models.

Just how much exactly? Before the October 18 price cut, Sony was selling around 30,000 to 40,000 consoles per week. Now the company says it has sold 75,000 consoles in the first week of the 40GB's debut, with sales exceeding 100,000 for the week ending November 11. Not bad.

Stringer calls the numbers a "breakthrough." One they had been anticipating.
