PSP slim won't recognise button presses

Hi everyone,

I bought a PSP slim, second hand which has the 4.01 M33 firmware loaded onto it. The triangle o x square buttons appear to work on the main menu screen, but when I try to play FF Tactics from the umd, problems occur. I seem to be able to go into the main menu screen, but once I select 'start new game' or 'continue', the buttons no longer appear to work! I then have to turn the PSP off and take out the battery for it to go back to the home screen!

It is also worth noting that on the PSP home screen, if I try to input any characters (on the PSP nickname screen, or wifi password screens for example) it acts as if someone is constantly tapping the select button, and rotating through character types.

Please bear in mind that I have no idea about firmware/custom ware, and that I will be happy to change it to an official one if it means it will work!

If you do know what is wrong and can help me, I will be eternally grateful as it is driving me absolutely mental! :mad1:

Thanks,

Monty

ok well this could be a number off things.
first thing that comes to mind is that the buttons could be lodged in. check that first. if all the buttons arent lodged i would install 5.03OFW and then install chickHEN and install 5.03GEN-D so you can use homebrew and backups still

Thanks, but i don't really know anything about custom ware and the like.

Is there a way to create an ISO file of FF Tactics, for 4.01 M33? It only seems to be a problem when I try to play a game from the UMD which does not have a save game in place...

Access recovery mode and select device driver as UMD, this will dump the UMD to your MS, extract the rar file and you have the ISO.

This will help http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=4440&highlight=Back+ups

I can't find any option in the recovery screen which lets me select the device driver as UMD. The vsh menu doesn't appear to work on mine, regardless of how long I hold down the start or select buttons. Can anyone recommend anything else? Really getting fed up with this now. All I want to do is play Final Fantasy Tactics :(

Goto settings>system settings>system information

what fw is it displaying?

Enter recovery using Cold off, and then holding RTRIGGER turn on psp to enter recovery. Select device driver as UMD etc etc

The VSH menu is probably disabled in recovery.
