Random Acts of Kindness

I gave a girl that had recently had an appendix opperation, my bus fare as she had lost hers. It meant i had to walk the 4km's home but i knew it would be a hell of a lot harder for her to do it. Then the next day, i forgot my wallet when leaving and was skint, no money to get food. Thats when i bumped into her again and she bought me lunch.

Karma works in funny ways i guess.

Wow.. Some people...

One of my friends got a free ipod Touch from his buddies.
From what I understand this kid gave him the iPod touch because he wanted the bigger one. I guess he was mad that his parents got him the smallest memory so they went out and bought him the highest memory. He got to keep both so he gave one of them away.

That is one random act of kindness that makes me want to puke. I hate selfish, spoiled, people. Even if they are nice enough to give away an iPod touch...

That story doesn't make much sense. If the kid asked his parents for a new larger capacity ipod because the smaller one wasn't sufficient enough, then wouldn't his parents rationally return the original one they got for him?? I have a feeling that you weren't told the real story.

And as far as him being selfish? I'd hardly call giving away an ipod touch for free a selfish act, but ehhh whatever

That is the story I was told. I also agree that it was stupid of his parents to buy a second one. It's a very rich family though. I'm sure they live in the top 25% of this area (money wise).

Yes, he gave his friend an iPod Touch, which in itself, was unselfish. I was referring to the fact that he complained and basically cried to his parents because they got him a perfectly working iPod Touch which I would love to have, regardless of size. I will give him credit for giving his old one to his friend but still. You should be happy with what you have.

I usually fit into the Random Acts of Jerk-ness area.

I don't like to lie but I certantly cheat and steal as much as I can.

I gave my friend an 80GB iPod Classic because he just got his iPod touch jacked during Guitar class.

You horrible man.

I'm way too much of a nice guy. If one of my friends asks to borrow money, I always give it to them. I hold the door for people, hold the elevator, etc. I never really run into situations where I can be hugely kind.

Heh, it seems the true meaning of this thread's intentions isn't clear to everyone - nonetheless, it doesn't really matter as we've got some good discussion going either way.

But, to clarify, this thread was originally meant to see if anyone has experienced a time when someone performed a random (or seemingly random) act of kindness towards them or another person (like my example - paying for someone else's purchase is not the norm, it is completely random and different) or a time when you have performed a random act of kindness for others.

While some of the posts match this criteria, I think everyone is forgetting the word "random" ;)

I just thought I'd clear that up. :)

Ooh, I deserve a spanking!

Random... well, I gave some guy some chips I was eating because he seemed under the weather. Does that count?

A few years ago, when I didn't have my driver's license, I took the bus to get around the city. One day, I decided to go home a bit later than usual and it was getting dark. When I walked onto the bus, I pulled out a $20 and asked the bus driver for change since the fare was only $1.25. He told me I had to go back to the counter and get change inside the bus station, but that he would be gone by that time. Luckily for me, an old lady of at least 60 payed my fare for me and told me I didn't have to worry about it. I wish I could have payed that lady back.

This incident happened sometime in 2007. I remember one night I was heading somewhere and it was freezing cold outside. I saw a homeless man standing outside of a building with nothing but a shirt to keep him warm. It made me feel so sad to see someone in that condition so I went back home, grabbed one of my jackets, and drove out to him to give him my other jacket.

Although these aren't the only times I've done something nice or had something nice done for me, they are the first things that come to mind. If I were to continue, I would end up sitting here for hours typing up pages of stories.

BAD:

I took a cute little Transformer toy that some little kid abandoned outside my apartment.

When I was homeless I stole some Chinese food left overs that a person left unattended, I gave the Egg Roll to another "real" homeless dood, but that was just cause I was not gonna eat i myself.

My "best" friend stole most of my SNES games and sold them for drugs.

I almost stole a Credit Card that was lying outside in the snow, when I was horribly broke, that I would have used to fill my gas tank and then discard, but some goody took it first and turned it into the store which parking lot it was in.

My Van got hit in the parking lot of my apartment and the person did not even leave a note.

A duck shat on me once.

I steal internet.

I steal AA Batteries.

I got left in the middle of nowhere (literally) when my other "friend" decided to ditch me and have sex with my ex.

I've bought candy on nothing but the "take a penny leave a penny" thing.

I exploded my tire when I accidentally hit a fire hydrant, and some doods I KNOW have tools in their truck not only drove past me but splashed me and laughed.

Some doods stole my Halloween Candy whilst I was in a lightsaber fight in the dark.

GOOD:

I gave some hummus to the same homeless dood I gave the egg roll, but it was hummus I had bought (I liked that homeless dood)

A bus driver let me on without fare cause the only money I had at the time was Canadian and he didn't want to deal with that.

I helped a girl change her tire on the side of the road.

That's about all the nice things I can think of... I could go on and on about the negatives though.

I don't know where you people live that you get such handouts and shit.

One time I was in a shop and as I was in the line for paying the guy in front of me had bought a drink and something else which I can't remember. Anyways, he was short 20 cent and the shopkeeper wasn't going to let him go without putting something back so I gave the guy the 20 cent.

Well, i've done some good deeds.

I ALWAYS offer my seat in busses, trains and so on to elderly people and also people older than me.

I give my friends a couple of bucks when they loose theirs and so on.

I helped a young boy find his mother in a mall. (He got lost there).

And many more.. :P

And many more.. :P

You should post them then!

I remember on one occasion I was in a convenient store just grabbing some milk on my way back from work, and just as I approached the glass sliding refrigerated doors, I picked it up and dropped it by accident. The bag of milk exploded, and that was that. The store owner was nice enough to let me get away with it though and said I could just grab another bag of it and not to worry. I helped him mop it though which was the least I could do

Alright. Here's one that happened after soccer training.

My friends and i all walked to a nearby mart where we bought some carbonated drinks. I was the last to pay and i handed out a 5 dollar note. The drink costs 1.80 only. The cashier was on the phone and i guess he did not calculate my balance correctly. Instead of handing me the correct change, he gave me 15 bucks. I wasn't really paying attention to my balance as i was shit thirsty. I just took the money, told thanks and i walked off with my friends to grab some food. After a while (About five minutes later), i realised that i had more money that i had supposed to have. I walked back, gave the cashier back the money, and lol i got a free drink :)

The very next day, we went to the same shop to get some drinks. This time around, my friend left his handphone by the counter and we all walked off. The cashier ran after us and gave the phone back to my friend.

:)
